I just thought, being Joe fans, you guys might like to see this take shape. I'm building it for myself, personal use, Gibson will not be on the headstock obviously (my name will be) and a few other details will be altered as well.

I wish Joe could have input some details about the ledge on the top....hopefully he will see this.

African Mahogany body
Ebony fingerboard with maple dot inlays
Sipo Mahogany neck (most likely)
25" scale
Lace Sensor Light Blue and Gold.
RS Guitarworks electronics
Vintage 3 on Plate style tuners
Schaller Straplocks
Flamed Koa Headstock logo
Paddle style headstock (this was not traced from the actual Skylark, rather I drew a general outline, and refined it to my taste)
ABR-1 Bridge
Strings through body.

Can anyone guess to the height of the raised portion on the top?
I'm making mine .23"
I wonder if the stepdown between these two levels, is it straight 90 degrees? or is is a concave shape?
Back of body routed for the roundover today. Didn't upload pics as yet.
Not that it seems that its gaining much interest...but I thought I would update it, in case anyone was following.
I decided to use a Lace Sensor Gold and Lace Sensor Light Blue, with a 3 way toggle and master tone and master volume. Originally I was going to put in a blend pot, but I don't know about that as yet.
Haven't posted but I'm following... Looking forward to more pictures and the finished product.... Maybe I can pay you to build me one too

Well I just got the wiring diagram to follow...at first I was absolutely lost with it.
It would have a blend control, and master volume and tone.
I'll keep the controls simple like Joe's guitar.
And top routed to final spec.
Pickup cavities routed.

Maybe I'm talented and don't realize it, but to me its like putting legos together.
I can do things like that only if I have step by step instructions... Maybe ill follow your model and give it a shot one of these days. The real problem is, I don't have the tools for it. They would be pretty easy to get from friends though. Maybe I'll start with a kit. My buddy is giving me an old crappy ibanez 7 string he has, and I'm gonna try to re-finish it.

I can't help with finishing, but if you need building advice or kit advice, then the luthiers-corner at MLP is a great place to check... I can hlp somewhat too but this is my first.
yeah man, that'd be great... I was thinking about starting with a simple SG Jr. kit.. I can't remember who makes it, but it is supposed to be nice. I poke around in MLP all the time, but rarely post, though everyone seems great over there.
SG Jr? Hmm I believe the best to look at for that would be Precision Guitar kits and Bulldog Kits.
SJ jr would look sweet in polaris white.
