Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Detroit seems an interesting choice regarding a 'home base'. I mean, a city with a great musical history of course. But everything I've seen and heard in recent times tells of it being bankrupt and decaying with enormous social problems.

I know these things are often negatively portrayed and that no large city in the world doesn't have its seedier underbelly, but does anyone know what the reasons for her being 'there' are?

Do we have anyone from Detroit on here? Talk the place up for me. Whats JST found there or are the Motown 3 giving really good discounts on Pick ups to residents these days?

Great news, pity she's not coming back to Aberdeen though. Looks like another trip to Glasgow.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

I'm sure it's very affordable in Detroit.  She can probably have a house with a home studio for an extremely reasonable amount.   Geographically, it's a good location too.  Political/economic crisis has always been creative fodder for musicians!

Last time in Newcastle she played the O2 Academy2 - if that night's anything to go by, The Cluny's going to be packed; and I'll be in the middle of it..... And I can go for seconds at The Arc.....

Joanne was based in Detroit (as are her US touring band) but has more recently relocated to Texas smile

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Huh? She was in Detroit but now in Texas? All in the space of 2-3 posts!

So what was wrong with Detroit then? Whats Texas got that Detroit hasn't? Y'see....another downer for Detroit.

I asked for people to talk Detroit up and now Icon you have proved everything I knew about Detroit (absolutely nothing in the first place) to be true!

I think JST needs to be explaining herself on this one. Where in Texas anyway. Helluva big place I'm told.........(only been in Ft. Worth myself).

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Don't know where she is living, but if you want to be in the middle of the type of blues she plays then Austin is the place to be.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Detroit, Texas, and when she becomes financially stable L.A., just ask Joe.

Not necessarily following the money as much as needing the money to afford to live out here. The Cali. lifestyle doesn't come cheap.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Joanne would be in bits reasing this. I think I am safe to say, the move has nothing to do with money or music. It's just personal choice.

I hope you mean that in a good way! I was just trying to have a bit of fun, get some info about Detroit ( a much maligned city - so I've read) and wind up the Texans!

It all sounds good to me and she needs to be where she needs to be. JST has been garnering good support and reviews for her performamnces in the US and thats clearly a market worth 'working' for now. She 'knows' her Euro audience will stick by her as she has already done the hard work there.

The next album will be important for sure. She is in the vanguard of exciting new talents breaking through and could easily build a committed following like JB has done. She is young, got the work ethic and very personable. I was able to get to meet her in Hamburg on the 'Blues Caravan' tour on the night of her 23rd (I think it was) birthday. Very easy to chat to and knocked out by the level of interest in her playing.

She's gonna go far..............and I don't just mean LA via Texas and detroit......
