Topic: Marshall TSL Series

I know quite a few of you on here (including Joe) like to use Marshall's DSL series, but I've noticed no one really mentions the TSL.  From what I see and hear, they seem like they'd be a great amp...  Anyone have any experience with them?  It looks like they could be had for quite a bit less money than some DSL's, so it made me wonder... are they bad?

Re: Marshall TSL Series

It's more of a question as to what suits you, no quality issues. We had a tour io the Marshall HQ today and played through various Amps, came away with a JCM 2000, a killer amp. We also came away with a VBA 400 Bass head that took us by surprise.

Re: Marshall TSL Series

The TSL is disastrously unreliable...and doesn't have the balls of the DSL. The DSL also does the cleaner, roaring old school sound better. The TSL is just modern, cleans are pretty sterile to me...and it can't even compete in the metal...which it is beaten by things like the Engl Blackmore and Orange Rockerverbs and Thunderverbs (all built better too).
I wouldn't even get one for a 1/3rd of the rrp off ebay...people still seem to think they are worth something?!  roll Wrong.

Re: Marshall TSL Series

Got a mate who gigs one and he raves about it, cant say I've ever played one myself though!

Re: Marshall TSL Series

DSL or a Vintage Modern at a push ..TSL doesn't do that Classic Marshall sound

Re: Marshall TSL Series

I use to have a TSL122 combo, look elsewhere there are much better Marshall's.
Either the Vintage Modern or DSL or even a JVM are a better choice.

Re: Marshall TSL Series

I know two guys that played with TSL's they sound ok both had them in the shop more than once for stuff other than tubes. I do think the DSL sounds better, but I do like the 3 channels on the TSL. It just depends on what you need.

Do a Google search for Marshall TSL Problems...and then do some reading. Some of them have had horrible bias issues, overheating problems and circuit board failures. It seems to be one to maybe steer clear of. I'm sure some of them are good but others...who knows!

Mine use to fry the V1 tube, the tech could never find out why.
When I sold mine I was muttering under my breath "see ya sucker" as I was waving goodbye to the guy who bought it.
