Topic: Your fan, my fiancée, got a 2nd chance at life. Our 2011 wedding song

Hi Joe,

I’m writing to you because I wanted to do something special for my soon to be husband, Jimmy. I’ll try to keep it short and sweet as you must have limited time. We will be getting married in Sept 2011 and we decided our wedding song would be one of yours, either your live version of “Mountain Time”(I absolutely LOVE the guitar solo at the end of the song, it really allows me to feel a wide range of powerful yet wonderful emotions), or “When she dances”.

Jimmy was diagnosed with cancer when he was 17. After surgery and chemotherapy he recovered, thankfully, after spending most of his senior year in a hospital room. I didn’t know him at this time but we met about 5 years ago when I was 21, he was 20. Although nothing became of it at the time, we reconnected a few years later, at a Starbucks coffee shop, and things went extremely well. Sept. 25, 2009 was our second “first” date.

I had never heard of you or your music before I met Jimmy. He actually took me to see your concert at the Peekskill, NY Paramount Center. Wow! I couldn’t believe how amazing you were, your singing, melodies, and guitar solos, really impressed me. So, as a result, I became a fan! Jimmy made me a compilation CD of your songs and I cherish it. This morning I was listening to “Mountain Time” (the live version that seems to be more acoustic?) and I was overwhelmed with the feeling of writing to you. I don’t know if anything will come of it, but my heart told me to. Maybe you will be able to respond to this heart-felt message or send Jimmy your autograph. Maybe you will simply be able to read this letter and our story will touch your heart just as your music has touched ours.

Jimmy overcame a lot in his life, and he has always maintained a positive outlook and a gentle, sweet, caring heart. He helped me overcome a serious eating disorder that trapped me for years and years, and he is truly my Prince Charming. He absolutely admires you and loves your music. He actually just bought one of your limited edition guitars, which he plays each night and then hangs up in his “music/man” room with his other precious items. He opened my eyes and he introduced me to your music and talent. That is why your song will be playing during “our first dance”. Basically when I think of our relationship, what “defines” us in a sense, and what connects us, I think of the music he introduced me to. I can’t wait until we can share our favorite songs with our family and friends. I’m sure your music will empower them as well.

Truly, your “new” #2 (hehe) fan,
Me

Sweets,
I enjoyed you post and welcome to Joe's forum.  Maybe he could do an acoustic unplugged version of Mountain Time and send it to you.  That would be cool.

Lovely story Sweets. Mountain Time is one of my all timers and I heartily endorse that selection. All the best on the upcoming nuptials. Dance the night away to those sweet strains.

Thanks everyone for your lovely words smile I am new to this whole thing. As I said, I'm doing this for my fiancee without him knowing yet and I don't know how to navigate this site.

Do you know how I could contact the moderators or J&R adventures? Thanks everyone

Nice story Me, sounds like you pretty much got the love thing down "sweetly".  Cancer is an insidious disease, so to hear recovery is wonderful, wonderful news.  Just last week I lost a childhood friend to cancer, and I am no stranger to it within my family and circle of friends.  Sounds like Jimmy is a pretty special guy (eating disorders are very serious also-congratulations and good man to help you there!  big_smile ), and Joe is your #2.  So welcome here, and congratulations to following the whim that inspired you to write and share, and congratulations on your engagement.  I am sure Joe will get a smile out of it and if the time comes for you & Jimmy to say hello to Joe in person, he will likely have some very nice words to say to you.  I am curious what your name is and also, are the two of you going to the Westbury show this Friday???
