Topic: Anyone good with woodwork here?

Ok, I need some help.
I have half inch maple dowels. Trying to find a drill bit for wood that's half an inch (12.7mm) is a nightmare.
But also, trying to find a dowel cutter that cuts to exactly mm and not inches, is just as hard.
It seems that all drill bits are in mm and all dowels and cutters are in inches.
How the hell are you meant to sort this?! :S
So, if anyone has any ideas it would be VERY much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Anyone good with woodwork here?

Hey Jimi, Drill a piece of 1/4" plate steel with a 12.4mm steel drill bit, knock the dowel through the hole, so it strips the sides of the dowel. Use the same drill bit to form a hole in the timber that your fitting the dowel in and you should have a good fit. Hope that helps.
