Every time I have seen Joe, I walked away thinking that was the best performance I've ever seen him give and last night in dallas certainly fit that description for me.
To set the mood... The 3,500 seat Music Hall was filled to capacity. The lights go down and ...what??? Two Minutes to Midnight is replaced with a Country/Bluegrass version of AC/DC's Highway to Hell. It was absolutely on point. Did a little interweb search and the band name is Hayseed Dixie. Perhaps it was only for the Dallas crowd and will be changed for other shows, but the crowd in Big D loved it.
set list is the same as the asian/australia tour so I won't go into those details.
The acoustic set was amazing. I'm now evern more envious of those of you that got to go the vienna.
So... Joe runs through the amazing acoustic set, then into the electric portion. Tone was amazing and his voice just seems to get better to me with every live show. So he's mid set and out comes the red E.S. 355. I knew somehting good was about to happen. Joe comes to the mic again and introduces...Ryan McGarvey. Holy crap! I've wanted to see him play again since the last Crossroads festival and now here he was. what a special player. Somewhat shy and standing too far in the back stage right but I guess that's understandable. They play a slow funky RCFP style version of Look Over Yonders Wall then into Blues Deluxe with Ryan taking the lead on the latter. Really, Really enjoyable.
Great show and I know that every JB fan is gonna love seeing it.
A few notable absences... No theriman, No Dark Lord Steve Morse EBMM, No EDS 1275 Double Neck (He used the red ES 355 for Young Mans Blues), and no Flying V.
The ear monitors seemd to work well and he kept them in until almost the end of Just Got Paid. Cleaner stage without the monitors up front. Looked really good. Upgraded light's from last time.
As to the new rig and pedal board. the sound was great to me. One missed pedal board button during the dazed and confused lead, but Joe seemed to shrug it off with a laugh and an Oh Sh** and moved on.
For me the only negative I could even find would have been with Tal's base drum. We were sitting stage right, 8 rows back from the speaker stack and the base drum was too high in the mix. I mean... I love a kick a$$ drum beat as much as the next guy, but after two hours of feeling every base drum beat, it got annoying. Like I said, it certainly could have been because of my seat location. Over all, I thought the house acoustics were outstanding.
Great Show Joe!. Loved it and Thank You for coming to my new home in Dallas. see ya next time.
