Did Joe really tweet that?! I can imagine that kind of sarcasm doesn't bode well with the voters. I'm sure Joe could care less and has decided that he's not in need of a Grammy and at this point say's what is on his mind. He's the top draw and dog in the blues world.

Blues is always a purist mode of thinking- look at who won the blues grammy's- Buddy Guy, Pinetop Perkins and Willie. All very deserving in my opinion. Hard to argue with those cats winning Grammy's.

I don't think it is sarcasm at all, minor well-deserved braggadocio perhaps, but stark reality is It is not really anything except facts. $ale$.

A doggy bone tossed to those who sit up and bark? Please!!!!! The voters don't even know who the heck he is, not even a cadre of Bona-who's! All I can say is a big no sift when the wake up call comes in......gave up after the so many non-named for nominations...Handy if they can get their....nevemind.

Good for Joe. If there is a major award out there that recognized blues music, and Joe isn't mentioned, I think there is a problem... plain and simple.

I know Joe has said he's not in the blues business, he's in the "entertainment business." But that reinforces that Grammy recognizes musical artists that are entertaining, and you gotta slap a blues tag on it for a nomination, than so be it.

Don't fool yourself. They know who Derek Trucks is, they know Susan Tedeschi, they know Kenny Wayne Shepherd, they know Johnny Lang, etc. They know of anyone who has played at a Clapton Crossroads Festival. I would expect Clapton's Festival preferences to be more "choosy" than the Grammys when it comes to Blues.

Yes Ian, sadly   sad  i was right!. The only act i enjoyed was Adele singing, Someone Like You - taken from her 21 album. At 22, a super talent IMO.

Re: Grammys

MuchJoe is an enigma to most.  He is blues based, hmmm... okay.  Yet he is in the caveman's (a RockMusic producer of ill repute  smile ) most capable hands and he's surrounded by rock musicians; starting with one of the most enduring, talented yet unsung Bassists ever seen in over 3 decades. and THEY ROCK HARD.  He is a virtuoso guitarists and scares most folks...and fear is a funny thing.

If I look at his crowds in the audience, I do not see what, with my years of experience, I would call a typical "Blues" crowd.  Yet many of them would argue that point.  After I play some of them soul bending "blues" by some cat or kitty, they never heard of, they look at me with this blank stare.  I look in their music library and I see AC/DC, Led Zep, The Who, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.  So they label me a purist and scoff at me as if my opinion was a judgement call re: Good or Bad.

The hipster rock crowd won't salute him because he doesn't paint his face, have green hair, do a lot of cocaine, wear Lycra & spandex and expose himself in public, for some questionable cause.  Again...not good or bad.  Just an observation.  Sure, I'd like to fill a stadium and drive a badass car, but I'm not selling my soul to do it and then crash & burn.

The grammys ignored all those old timers when they were in their prime for the same reasons.  I can't explain any of the one's Nic mentioned,  Nevertheless Joe does just fine.

The Grammys remind me of that story Jeus told about not seeking to appear righteous to the grammy crowd just to get an award..."Verily I say unto thee, they have their ONLY reward."  Ye gots mo impotant shite to study on.

Or they can do Joe like the armed services did me...they labeled me "Unclassifiable."  The Grammys can create the MuchJoe award for those artists whose appeal crosses all generations, race, creed or gender...

Re: Grammys

You mean the Grammys were on? Pfffft, who cares? Give me a shout when someone as deserving as Joe is up for one, then maybe I'll tune in. As a matter of fact, don't bother me with such nonsense until Joe IS up for one!! cool

Re: Grammys

Jane Dear, you just proved my point perfectly.  Thank you.  And I can imagine or envision Joe being played on mainstream radio.  I've demanded it.  I've never thought about what that might mean to the grammys...don't care.

I'm circling 2 different cases at my work which might be more important than anything on this forum.  One involves political greed & thievery, the other child molestation.  Excuse me please for being a buzz kill, but Joe doesn't need a grammy or the indignant hysteria which springs from him not getting one (the recognition,) to be a superstar in my/our minds.

and I didn't say or even imply that Joe himself was not a blues man, he most definitely is.  and most of the fans on this forum are rockers, which is why the G peoples don't know what to do about him. IMO

I love Joe.  He is my friend.  Just like you are.  I love you, too.  I will say no more.

joe could cross over from rock stations to country stations too.

I don't like country, but I can head "Dirt in My Pocket" played on country stations.
John Henry or Had To Cry could be on any rock station and hold up just fine.

Most definately, Joe has the class and skill to touch and influence all genres and he has proved that. There are some tasty "country" artists out there, who certainly have my ear - Darius Rucker for one - he of Hootie and the Blowfish. Check out his latest album, it's a scorcher!
