Topic: Grammys

Congrats to Buddy Guy, The Black Keys, and Ray LaMontagne....

I seem to rant about this every year.  big_smile  Yet another Grammy Awards goes by without Joe nominated. I know "it doesn't matter" to Joe but it sort of does matter to me. Grammys by definition should recognize good music. At least Kenny Wayne Shepherd is sniffing the nominations. Being on top of the billboard blues charts doesn't coordinate well with the recording academy apparently.  neutral

Album of the Year? Song of the Year? All pop/hip-hop, and country? What happened to rock last year!?
Arcade Fire? Who is that? Are they calling that rock these days because there's guitars? I cannot stand country, but the Lady Antebellum stuff is actually pretty decent.

Re: Grammys

I tried to watch some of it.  Try being the operative word here.  I liked the opening tribute to Aretha, but it went down hill fast for me after that.  By the time Bob Dylan came on who, in my opinion, has one of the all time worst voices, I simply could not take it anymore.

Actually, I love country music and "Need You Now" from Lady Antebellum was the only one of the "Record of the Year" songs that I had even heard.

Once again proving that my tastes in music are very divergent from the mainstream...and I'm quite Ok with that.

As to Joe's attendance/lack of nomiantions, he tweeted about it.  I think it would be more of a validation of his greatness and it certainly would help on the marketing side, but again, I think Joe apeals to a much different demographic than that of the majority of grammy artists/watchers.

Re: Grammys

Re: Grammys

Jeff Beck won three Grammys!

Re: Grammys

I tuned in for a few minutes a couple times throughout the night.  The only thing I saw were a few lame pop acts.  Congrats to the winners, though.  I know there were a lot of talented people nominated and showcased, but the bits I watched were completely uninteresting to me.

Re: Grammys

ROCK IS DEAD!!!!!!!! The Muse beats out Neil Young, Jeff Beck, & Tom Petty for best rock album????? However Need You Now is a monster song IMO.

Re: Grammys

Everybody relax. The "Grammys" is a show. There were only 10 awards given out on air. It's a lot like the "Top 100" in Rolling Stone. They both reflect a certain section of the population.
Having said that, the "winners" weren't as predicable as pundits thought. A female jazz singer beat Justin Bieber for "Best New Artist"! And, I've learned through my admiration for Joe, NOT to be a purist. I love music. So I watched it as a "show", got educated about some of these artists so I can keep up with my grandchildren's style, and enjoyed most of it. The "mute" button handled the rest. Joe gets accolades where it matters.   Cathy

Here is what you didn't see during Lady Ga Ga's Grammy performance.

LOL Rik.  I enjoyed that a lot more.  If only that malfunction did happen on the Ga Ga Grammys.  They should have just had the whole Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast come out and sing with her.  A little "moon over my hammie"

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

I beg to disagree, - there are some pretty rocky acts in there in comparison to previous years that line-up looks okay (it has been awful before):

Paul Weller, - superb guitarist

Robert Plant, - think he has done a couple of rock things!

Biffy Clyro - damn fine rock group with great guitarist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op9nJBPly9w

Kings of Leon, - all guitar rock

Mumford and sons, - not rock but it sure aint pop! One of the best songs of last year:

I take your points Ian. It's good to see  Robert Plant & Paul Weller   nominated of course, i will be the first to say congrats if either win.

Biffy Clyro & Kings of Leon,  yeah, both good bands, but lets wait and see who walks away with the prizes !  hmm

A Handy award would be a lot more Handy in my opinion. BUT, Joe (J&R Adventures are) is a finger in the eye of the RIAA and "the blues" too despite the Blues Foundation Board stint... weird as all get out!
BUT, what the heck, one day they will have a forced hand...or, maybe not.  Arm wrestlers wanted.  Megaphone qualified persons wanted, cheerleading experience not required....

Re: Grammys

Did Joe really tweet that?! I can imagine that kind of sarcasm doesn't bode well with the voters. I'm sure Joe could care less and has decided that he's not in need of a Grammy and at this point say's what is on his mind. He's the top draw and dog in the blues world.

Blues is always a purist mode of thinking- look at who won the blues grammy's- Buddy Guy, Pinetop Perkins and Willie. All very deserving in my opinion. Hard to argue with those cats winning Grammy's.
