Topic: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

Just scored some tickets to see Robert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on April 23.  The internet sale is going on now, password ANGEL.  General public sale starts on the 23rd.

I'm a happy girl.

Re: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

You're in for a treat.

Saw Robert in Newcastle upon Tyne in England back in October where he put on a great show.  Band was really tight and he seems to be enjoying himself, even taking a back seat to let some of the other band members take the spotlight. He's re-invented himself and it sits well with him.

He's reworked some of the old Zeppelin numbers to fit in with what he's doing now and they work well.

Just class.

Re: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

I got the CD for Christmas.  Like most of it but some is a little to country for my taste.  I'm a rock n' roll girl at heart.  But seeing him live will be totally different I'm sure.

Re: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

We got see him last year with his Band of Joy and it was just fantastic.

When I saw that Patty Griffin (love her CD "Downtown Church") was with him I knew it was going to be more Bluegrass/Gospel.

Bettye Lavette opened and she just killed! She did her version of The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me"

You are in for a wonderful time and hear some great musicans.

Re: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

I heard that 70% of his set list has been Zeppelin songs, kind of funny since he turned Jimmy Page down for a Zeppelin Tour after that reunion.

Re: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

He does do some Zep songs from what I've seen, with a different arrangement with the new band, but also songs from the new cd plus a few hits throughout the solo career..  I think his long time fans would be
dis appointed if he did not do any.  For along time at the beginning of his solo career he did not do any LZ songs, but has come to terms with the fact that it is part of his DNA and alot of the fans enjoy that history.

As I said in the earlier post, he's doing 2-3 Zep songs that he's adapted to what he's doing now. That's all the nod towards that part of his career that he does.

He said in a recent article in Rolling Stone that he's moved so far away from that genre of music (Zep) that he almost can't relate to it any more.

Robert will be on David Letterman tonight if you can stay up that late.

Re: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy

I went to the Greek Theatre Saturday night to see Robert and the Band of Joy.  It's a really nice venue.  Lots of places to chill out and relax while waiting for the show to start.  Had a beer and Mr. Me had a funnell cake.  He was my designated driver.  The North Mississippi Allstars opened and were a pretty good duo playing a couple of unusual instruments. They played for about 40 minutes before an intermission to get ready for the main event.
Robert may have gone a little softer in his latter years but the guy still has got it.  I enjoyed the new arrangements of some of the LZ songs.  My favorite was Ramble On.   He and Patty did an awsome job on I'm In the Mood and of course they played some of the current stuff off the new album. Angel Dance  was my favorite of those pics.  He is very personable chatting between the songs and took a backseat on some of the songs to let the other musicians be in the spotlight.  A great night for me.  Mr Me not so much.  He was just along for the ride.
