Topic: Tried the early Celestion V30's

Ok, so I've had these british made V30's in my 4x12 cabinet, and I'm on the fence about them.

They sound good at moderate volumes, and the highs are really nice - everyone says they're "ice picky" so if you know that you do things to get around it... Weber Beam Blockers seemed to help a bit.

The clean channel on my amp distorts the speakers when half way up. It's a 55 watt amp. It's what I'd call an earlier breakup. I'm not sure if I like speaker distortion. I think if I wanted it, I'd get it from my preamp section or one of my expensive pedals wink

I know the EVM 12L's are 200 watt and the V30's are 60 watt. Is a 55 watt amp enough to drive four EVM 12L's???

Re: Tried the early Celestion V30's

Judging from what JB and others have said about the EV12's is that they will sound just fine with anything because they are rated at such a high wattage.  I guess they aren't really meant to be "pushed", they are meant to spit out the Exact sound your amp is giving without any added color, fuzz etc...  I've never tried them though I have considered them so I don't know if what I'm saying about them is 100% accurate, but thats what I gather.  -Seth
