Topic: Marshall JCM 900

Hey guys.  just made a fantastic purchase.  a JCM 900 for 500 bucks!  very cool.  Its already loaded with groove tubes that are fairly new.  what  are your guys  thoughts on the 900?  I think its 1 ballsy amp.  all  comments welcome.

Good amp, very reliable and 'gig-worthy' but a little too high gain for me.....but you're going to have hours of fun wink

hey guys just a question...
I got a chance to crank it earlier today,  and it didnt really have all that much gain.  Is the key to get it to almost full blast to relaly get that saturation out of it?  i was using a cab that can handle 600 watts, so i definitley wasnt getting any speaker break up.  any suggestions to get that saturation out of the jcm 900?

blues fans cover your ears!

turn the bass all the way up, the mids all the way down, and the treble all the way up. turn the gain all the way up and the presence all the way up. That should make it CRUNCH

-note: those are not my EQ settings, but have found that get some fo the most distortion.

what kind of speakers are you driving??? this amp would really do well with 4 vintage 30's celestions.

It gets good distortion but thats about it.

How did you get the tone? I've got a JCM900 but it doesn't sound like that by far!!!

I have had all the models of the 900 and they have all been wildly different...
The best one by far was the 2100 MkIII non-reverb master volume with EL34s.
The 6L6s in these things absolutely kill the crunch and roar. The reverb models are okay...the 50w versions are weaker...do not have the roar or the balls.
