Topic: Final show of the year...incredible!

Last night's show in Fort Myers was a great way for the band to end their 2010 tour. Having never played in this city before it might have been reasonable to expect that there would be a respectable showing of hard core blues fans in the audience, but maybe more than a few empty seats as well. Well, from where I was sitting it looked like a sell-out crowd...that's 1800 hundred or so people turning out, and apparently LOVING what they got!

My wife and I have only seen the band only once before, last November in Clearwater Florida and we were really impressed at that show. We've been fans of the music since then, and have enjoyed the CD's and of course the RAH DVD. What we saw last night, however, was just amazing. Maybe playing 215 shows in a year creates a special energy in a band, and maybe the more a song gets played the more it evolves toward perfect. I don't know if any of that makes sense. but this show felt like a true peak experience.  The band was as tight as any band could possibly be...they were individually brilliant, and at the same time it seemed like they together became ONE.  I don't know how else to describe that.

Songs that we had heard before were played with...I don't know, maybe I might say a new understanding or something, and they became new versions of themselves. For example, "If Heartaches Were Nickles", always a favorite of mine, was played in a heartbreakingly gentle new way that really tore me up. It was perfect.

A highlight of the show was when Ricky Medlock joined the band on stage for a couple of songs. He and Joe shared the leads in "Further On Up The Road", and they went into "Blues Deluxe" trading licks that were just spectacular.

Another spot of brilliance was "Sloe Gin"...played and sung with the emotion intended by the lyrics just pouring out of the speakers. The show wrapped up with "Bird on a Wire" followed by "Just Got Paid". The entire house was on it's feet (as they were often throughout the performance) for this, and again I say...Wow!

You describe the directional twists pretty darn good, I know and understand exactly how you feel and what you mean!
Almost like me actually being there, being.  Thanks for the insightful words.  I'd definitely add soulful to his / their recent take on If Heartaches Were Nickels. The song continues to be prominent, exquisite (in whatever incarnation) and exemplary from Joe Bonamassa, 10 years and 2.5 bands later.

Last nights show was great. From my 3rd row seat  I was witness to guitar magic not often  witnessed since I leaned against the stage for a SRV show about 25 years ago.   Joe came out loud, classy and spot on.   If Heartaches Were Nickels  was a diffferent, slower, heartfelt version that I really liked.  As one of my favorite JB songs,  I thought it was really cool.  The studio version of "Bird on a Wire" is not on my top ten list,  but the harder guiter version last night ROCKED.   Slow Gin was AWESOME.  Joe was about 8 feet from  my seat during the entire solo and kept the crowd mesmerized.  Woke Up Dreaming had an intro I hadnt heard before  that was very cool, and really was awesome.   I had the opportunity to get a guitar signed before the show and that was a great Christmas present..Thanks Joe for a great night and a great memory.

Re: Final show of the year...incredible!

I am still in awe from last nights show in Fort Myers!!  His music wrapped around my soul from the first song to the last. And I know I wasn't the only one to feel that way. There were people with tears in their eyes and sweet smiles on their faces. This was a Christmas present for me from my husband and I will treasure last night for a very long time. The band is so tight that when the members took a break and Joe played alone, He never looked behind him when they returned and they went right into the next number !!  I have never seen that before.
His music and his presence are truly spiritual. I would love to hear him do a version of Amazing Grace. I would also love to hear him do "Dirty Road" by Days of the New. I am so thankful to have seen this show !!

Re: Final show of the year...incredible!

The Fort Myers show was killer.  I dragged  my wife to the concert (not a big blues rock fan) and she sat mesmerized through the first couple songs.  I thought she was not enjoying the show.  Boy was I wrong. By the end of the show she wanted to do research and purchase everything the band has done. We have never been so fully entertained and pulled into the moment.  She insisted we wait by the tour bus to see if we could catch a glimpse of Joe and the band.  An hour later we had pictures taken with Joe, autographs, and a night we will never forget. The following day while wearing the tour shirt I had purchased we were approached by many people that had gone to the sold out show, or wanted to know how it was since they could not get tickets. I told them how great the show was and realized what an impact the event had on so many in this area. We have already decided that in the future if Joe doesn't make it to southwest Florida, we will travel to see him. I am so glad that Joe has such a great following in this area. Everyone that I talked to agreed that in addition to awesome talent and showmanship, Joe and his band seem like great people. We wish the band and crew continued success and look forward to future shows!!

Welcome to the forum ChefScott. Now you and the wife know why we rave about Joe and his music. Spread the word and maybe next time it will be a 5000 seat venue with room for all.
