Topic: A New Day Yesterday

Anybody want to learn the chords to ANDY this guy does a pretty good job of playing along and keeping his hands visible to where you can get the chords figured out along with the riffs.

Haha, god I look serious when I play !!!

Not my best, but on video I always bottle it a bit, it was for the forum on a guitar tution site I go to a lot, cant believe it has ended up on here.

As a note been watching videos of Joe, seems he plays all open chords in the chorus, but the chords I use still sound good, if I only knew the names of them  I could tell you.

Notice how I chop off with Starship smile I like to try and play things right on my ability level, to puch myself to get better, but that one is way out of reach for me at this point, see how I fumbled around trying to find the first chord...ugh.

But I think it sounds pretty much the same, just needs a player with a better grasp of guitar than me to make it really shine!

Looked like A5, E5, C5, E5, G, A5, C5, E5.

Some good playing there by the way.

That first chord in Starship took me ages to figure out! So don't feel bad about fumbling about to find it. I went to play it recently and had forgotten it completely. It's just not a common used chord so you don't remember it so easily...nothing to worry about.

For Starship trooper once my fingers are locked in I am good to go, but getting the switch from the C5 to it like Joe does is on my practice list for sure. I find on the first go around of the chords, I drop the ring finger from the 6th string to the 5th string, so it looks like the open C Chord shape(not including the pinky on high E, sure there is a name for that, Csomethingorother I call it), then I move it up to 6th string and slide it back up with the chord to the start of the 2nd cycle of the sequence, gives it a little bit of flavour, saw a video of the Yes guitarist saying he changes the same way in the song to mix it up a bit.

I am still trying with the solo, I mess it up daily, but I might add a note or 2 into what I can do, lose my way when he goes up the neck and starts those wicked runs around the pentatonic shape. I tarted trying to learn the version of Rockpalast, pretty sure i wont ever get to that level. I listen to the LFNIP version, and it seems to be a bit more restrained, and not as much lightning fast work, but still sound so sweet with some beautiful note selection going on.

Is there anything better in the world than trying to figure out this thing they call guitar, I only wish I had more time to devote to playing.

Re: A New Day Yesterday

I saw the video and thought that if I was trying to learn a song this would be a great way to do it. I only wish I could play more then open major chords and bar chords and I get bored with my level of my talent for guitar playing. If I wanted to play one of my favorite Joe B songs I could follow your example and someday might even be able to play it.

Re: A New Day Yesterday

Here is my take -- worked on learning the tune last night, time to work on the solo this weekend.....used the studio version to learn.

Re: A New Day Yesterday

nice job.

what gear did you use?  even though the mic was overloading for me, i still dug the base tone. . . .

Re: A New Day Yesterday

Michaeljohn - if you are asking me what gear used....practice amp, Fender G-Dec 3 Thirty....marshall tone dialed in...this is my practice rig for home.....gets the job done.

If asking the original poster of track?? sorry for jumping in....that post inspired me to learn the tune...
