Topic: Zonolite - silent killer
With the weather requiring an indoor day I have just been reading the horrific story of the Montana town of Libby, and about the domestic horror product that is Zonolite.
AOL News. com are featuring are a 4 part series article by Andrew Schneider regarding the tragedy that has unfolded here and is perhaps unfolding around the world.
Yes, it is an asbestos story, and like other asbestos stories it features ignorance, denial, criminal negligence, scandal and as usual when big business, big bucks are involved the most shameful corporate and governmental indifference.
Given that we, the people, and the Governments of the world have known about the dangers of this material for soooo long it defies logic that we still use it, still allow it, still produce it. Yet still in the corridors of powers the lobbyists and apologists for this dastardly industry line the pockets of lawmakers and politicians so as to allow those responsible for this corporate genocide to continue to escape the appropriate justice.
Maybe some of you already know the story and it is old news. For those who don't here are the first lines of article 1. This alone, is enough to make you think about the consequences of an entirely normal seasonal task............
"WASHINGTON (Nov. 29) -- Americans living in millions of homes will soon crawl into their attics to collect their holiday decorations. With those colorful lights and ornaments could come invisible and deadly asbestos fibers that decades from now may destroy or end the lives of some of the celebrants."
