Topic: I just played for the first time in 13 weeks! OMG!

Well, I just did it. I played my first real thing in 13 weeks. It was quite painful, both musically and physically.

I played Sloe Gin and The Great Flood. No FLoyd yet (only cos the strats are not in tune and I could not be arsed!)

If Joe ever heard it he would honestly issue a contract out on my life- it truly was that shockingly bad.

it was nice though. Hand and arm very sore after and still struggling with simple cowboy chords but one line playing fine if limited in ability, mind and recall.

I did remember the Great Flood intro which suprised me a lot!!

Now, which b8gger stole my callouses?

Have the 'hands that do dishes' hands? Haha.

So how's the Jester?  wink

Good luck with the continuing recovery.

Well I didn't have the time or inclination to set the 'big' rig up- I played my spare Lester into the Pete Cornish SS3 into the SIB Echodrive into my Plexi and it sounded heavenly. One of the best on the fly tones I've ever achieved ironically! Very JB.

Re: I just played for the first time in 13 weeks! OMG!

Just did another 15 mins.

Painful but getting there- managed a little rendition of Happier Times, a song that really grabbed me whilst I was going thru all the sh1t and one I know is immesely personal to Joe.

Strings feel like razors these days compared with the old days!

Nic- not so much SRV, but as the Gilmourheads put it 'sucking lemons' ala David's puckering when he plays!

Good Day Jakey

Keep trying and working thru the pain..mate.

I had an triple Coronary Bypass last October. My chest (Sternum) was split wide open and

they took a radial artery out of my left forearm, which left stitches from my wrist all the way

up to the bend in my elbow, and an artery out of my left thigh as well. I was beat up

afterwords.

Spent 5 days in the hospital and ALL I could think about was, getting out of there and

playing guitar again.

I told the Doctor before the surgeries, "I'm a musician and I've played guitar for 30

years....when you're done cutting me up, we need to make sure that I can still

play...KAPEECHE?" He told me after the 7 hour surgery that that was foremost on his

mind during the procedures, making sure I would still be able to play.

When I got home, That was the first thing I grabbed..(although tenderly) and although

my BRAIN was telling my left hand where to go, it was definitely slow going for several days,

BUT I kept going...and I'm good as new today...

Just keep at it ...NEVER give up mate. Feel better and keep a positive attitude.

Cheers

Re: I just played for the first time in 13 weeks! OMG!

Thanks all....

Aussie- I thought I had it bad, but you've trumped me big time. Keep going bud. The fact England are gonna rip you a new one this coming Saturday will be no solice for you  wink

Justin, Spider, cheers guys.

And, I have never mentioned this before, because it's kind of a personal thing, but the one guy that really also gave me inspiration was Joe himself when we met in Bristol for my guitar signing. He told me I'd come back better, that it happened to him a few yrs ago and that, best of all, I'd lose all my bad habits and become a better player for it. I took huge inspiration from those words and his performance that night, and thank him from the bottom of my heart. I was actually at my lowest ebb around that time and he, Warren and Matt the Yamyam guitar tech (he'll know!)  cheered me up no end that day with their kindness, interest and enormous generosity of time and spirit. So thanks JB and the crew too.
