Topic: New amp needs different approach.

hey all

since getting my dual terror, my whole pedalboard has become a bit redundant. before i used 1-2 drive pedals and a clean booster to get a remotely decent tone from my blues deluxe. this isn't the case with the DT, but i could use some help in the OD/booster department.

my TS9 doesn't seem to work that well with the orange, same with my tonebender. the ts doesn't help when it's boosting a mid heavy amp and the tonebender gets muddy with the amp drive.

i was think of keeping it simple and getting either a zvex super hard on or the mxr micro amp. i just want something to push the amp a little more for lead work. anything else people suggest?

also, i know delay before amp doesn't work well in a overdriven context, but anyone had any luck with the mad professor deep blue delay? apparently it's designed to work in the front end of your amp. any users here?

I would go the same route and try the MXR, or even a Compressor to boost for Lead work.  I used to use a Comp pedal, then an OD now back to a Compressor for leads.  It just seems to work better for me.  -Seth

Re: New amp needs different approach.

how are you running the compressor, more level and less ratio?

Re: New amp needs different approach.

i really like their EP booster, but there stuff is quite pricey. anyone think a blues driver might pair up nicely with the dual terror?

did also think about getting one of the gearmandude pedals. though torn between the luther drive and the time bomb. help me out AD3three wink

Yes basically I turn the level knob on compressor so when it's on my signal gets louder.  I used to use a Boss but it was noisy, then I switched to just using an OD but on top of an already dirty amp, IT was noisy too.  So I bought an MXR Custom Comp, and I'm very happy with it.  I use the setting suggested in the book, the same way I ran my Boss compressor, where you slow the attack with the internal trim pots an run the sensitivity at full an push the volume up to boost signal.  -Seth

Re: New amp needs different approach.

Is that the silver comp or the mxr super comp?
Still looking out for a boost o/d, did think of getting a blues driver again. Apprehend they work well with orange amps.

Re: New amp needs different approach.

I'd REALLY like to try that Xotic Custom shop pre-amp with mid-boost...some glorious tones on youtube and the web out of it...

...but £200! Whaaaa...

Re: New amp needs different approach.

Matt Schofield uses the handwired version of Mad Professor Deep Blue (not the new PCB model that goes for $199.00), but he uses it up front.  His board the night I went:  Tuner, Klon, SOV-2 and Deep Blue Delay.  Amp was a single channel Two Rock, but keep in mind, Matt doesn't use distortion, just a little OD and or boost from Klon to a pretty cranked amp.  Delay was set very minimal - maybe why it works for him.  I asked him about this during break and he said he didn't like anything in amp loop and found this pedal to be compact/small and worked for his needs.

I remmeber using my T-Rex Replica up front when doing recordings with my Blues Jr with no adverse reaction..here'a an old short noodle I did one morning prepping for a day of recording:

P.S. Good luck and share your findings.
