Topic: Do you ever come across those guitars modded in the 80's?

So I was reading the topic "Biggest Selling Regrets" and it made me think of my old strat.  The story goes, I was into Van Halen and had to have a Floyd Rose equipped guitar.  I was a 19 year old punk when I bought a Fender Strat with a Warmoth neck.   I remember buying this Fender (I thought it was a copy at the time) at a pawn shop for $100.  It said "no name electric" on the tag.  Anyway, when I took it in to have the body routed the guy took the neck off to see who made the body and somehow he identified it as an early 60's ('61 as I recall) strat body and asked me if I was sure I wanted to do the routing.  Of course I do!  He kept the pickguard and pickups and original hardware for the routing work.  I paid for the Floyd and the rest is history.  I sold the guitar a few months later because it only had 21 frets and I needed one more.  At that time (mid-80's early 90's) you used to see these guitars in pawn shops and music stores.  I'm wondering if anyone ever comes across these "modded" guitars and what kind of prices they bring these days.  I keep thinking it would be great to come across a Kayler modded strat or Les Paul and restore it back to original.  Surely I'm not the only guy from the 80's that ruined a perfectly good guitar.

That is like an Antiques Road Show moment where they say, if only it had the original patina...

Re: Do you ever come across those guitars modded in the 80's?

In the mid 90's I played a White Les Paul Custom from the early 70's that someone saidly installed a floyd rose on they also then drilled two screw holes through the Floyd and the guitar body to keep it locked in place. It was a sweet sounding and playing guitar one of the best I ever played but I was so worried about the poor work on the floyd that I would never keep it in tune so I passed on it.

I think if I met the guy that did that mod I would of punched him for wrecking a great guitar! HA

Re: Do you ever come across those guitars modded in the 80's?

I feel very sad when I see a Kahler in a Les Paul.

The worst story I heard (brace yourselves) was that in the 80s (punks or new wave?) some people used to get the doubleneck SGs and cut them in half thinking two SG style guitars were better than one - and not thinking about how much they might be worth now...(I'm guessing lots of very great guitars went on the scrapheap or were literally firewood to some people).

It's silly today the obsession over some products, but I think all guitars must be respected.

So do I but Neal Schon thinks it's cool.

We'll that's punk for ya. I never got it, the music, the attitude. Bunch of ignorant tossers.
