Topic: Vox AC15cc1 speaker replacement

Hey everyone....


I am in the process of upgrading aprts in my Vox AC15cc1.  One of the components I want to change is the Wharfdale speaker.  Now the Vox is a bright amp, I want to bright that brightness down a bit while possibly increasing the clean headroom with a new speaker .  Other than the Alnico Blue, which the higher price model comes with, what speaker would you recommend?

Keep in mind I am playing classic rock (Cream/Zepp/Hendrix) and maybe a touch of Joe in there too while playing both a Gibson Les Paul RI58 and soon to be slightly upgraded Les Paul Traditional (with RS guitarworks vintage wiring set).  Both guitars have the original pickups in them RI58 BB1 and 2 and Traditional '57 & '57 plus).  Pedals being used now are Boss sd-1 into Boss super chorus into Boss DD-3

I have owned the AC15 and AC30 CC2.  Both had celestion speakers. Now that I sold both and have a AC15 HW with an Alnico Blue I can say that is the speaker I would suggest.  If you cant spend 270 dollars, look at Weber.  They have a Alnico blue speaker for about 200 dollars.  Also Eminence has a Red Fang I think which is an alnico british like speaker. There is also one called "the dark mountian" I think thats the name.  Its an american voiced speaker that is an alnico type speaker.  That may sound good too. 

So that is my personal opinion.

I cant recommend enough the Alnico blue type speaker.  I am in the process of looking for two for my Bruno.

I have to agree....the blue is the best I have heard in a Vox AC type amp.....15 or the 30. The new vox ac15 come with a celestion greenback and I like that amp as well. Might be worth a try/

Another thing to consider is playing a Les Paul into these amps takes away some of your clean head room.  The Les Paul will break up this amp way before a Single coil guitar will.  I have a 58 RI and my AC30 was used when ever I needed more clean room. 

I am not sure if the Alnicos will get you that you'll have to call and ask a pro at Weber or eminence.

A Celestion V30 is probably going to be the most popular answer, but I'd try out an Eminence Swamp Thang (120watt) or Eminence's answer to the V30: The Governor... like a V30 without the shrill high end.
