Topic: Bright/Dark - amps list

Not sure if this will work, but I haven't seen it here and would like to know myself...

I'd be cool if we compiled a list of amps and whether they have bright/dark/varied or versatile voicings. Any and every amp you can think of/have tried...including Joe's. Marshalls to Bogners to Fenders to Hiwatts and Divided By 13s...

I'll just start with one - you can put down as many as you like.

Orange Rockerverb - most definitely dark.

Re: Bright/Dark - amps list

I'll usually say an amp is bright if it is NOT dark. Usually when an amp is dark - you know it wink
speakers had a lot to do with this, but this was my impressions of:

Peavey Classic 100 - mildly-bright
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe - BRIGHT
Fender Blues Jr. - BRIGHT
Rivera R55-12 - ch.1=dark, ch2=bright
Sovtek MIG50 - bright
Mesa Boogie Triple Rec. - DARK
Metro JTM45 - bright for a Marshall smile

Re: Bright/Dark - amps list

This is kind of a tough one, because almost any amp can be EQ'd bright or dark.  I'll take a shot:

Vintage Fenders: Bright

Vintage Plexiglass Marshalls: Dark

Bogners: Dark

Vox: Bright

Dr Z's : Typically Bright to moderately Dark

Matchless: Bright

Trainwreck:  Bright and AGRESSIVE   mad   mad   wink

Dumble: Dark

That's all I can come up with right now

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

The Dailey is nice and dark but aggressive at the same time.  Like a small box 50w Plexi and a JCM800 had a baby.  Love that head/cab but sadly I am willing to sell it.
