I definitely wouldn't be surprised if more people started doing this.  The prices for the vintage Fenders, most especially Silver faces, are low enough that it would be an "investment" to buy one.  I think more people seem to be catching on to that fact.  As long as it's in relatively good condition and it works, and you keep it that way after you buy it, chances are that it might be worth double (or maybe more) many years from now.  Kind of amazing what happens to stuff when you let it age for 50 years, huh?  smile

Oh Yea I have a silver face 68 Bassman, its not worth much now but I am guessing in 20 Years it will be worth quite a bit more, and since I got it free from my dad its even cool. Hell I bought my Jubilee for $400 in 2000 on ebay and even though mine is in black its easy worth $1200. I can tell you in that when I had a 401K  and other investments they never ever grew that much over time. Plus you get to play them....

Sliverface fenders are flying under the radar for now I would look for a good used one while you still can.

Re: Need some serious amp selection help...

I had a twin for years and played small gigs.  It sounds great at any volume.  Plus if you play any outdoor gigs sometimes its nice to have 100 watts.

That said I use a Vox AC15hw for everything now and have a Bruno Underground 30 for louder gigs. The Bruno is 36 watts and I use a Weber Minimass Attenator to turn it down due to the volume at 1 is louder than my Vox AC15 gets on 10.

So I'd say go with a deluxe reverb if you must have a fender. The used ones sound great. Another option is checking out Sligo amps.  He makes handwired fender and marshall clones. Great quailty and it might be a better sound and build quality due to it being handwired point to point.

He has great prices and can custom whatever you want.
