Susan and I had the great pleasure of seeing KWS play on Sunday night.
First the Venue - The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA, 120 miles from my home. Very nice small venue in similar sorts to the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano for any SoCal readers, perhaps a little nicer. Dinner seating was about 400 with perhaps a few hundred extra folks in the "standing room only" area. We shared a table with 6 other folks we did not know, but quickly made friends and enjoyed the evening. Our table was about 20 ft from the stage so the view was outstanding.
In short, KWS killed it. He played everything you would have expected him to play and then a little more. He went off on a 12 minute blues solo that was simply breathtaking. It was evident through some of his solo's during the evening that he was paying homage to the likes of SRV
KWS is a Fender Strat man and all the guitars he played were Strat's, including the KWS signature w/racing stripes. It is a vary nice looking guitar and sounds fantastic.
He closed the show with a flower decorated Strat and his version of Voodoo Child in homage to Jimmy. It absolutely brought the house down.
Kenny's newest live release was on sale that night, but being a fan, I alreay had it. If you don't alreay have it, I highly recommend it.
Kenny also mentioned that the band is working on a new studio album which should be out in the spring.
If there's any complaint I would have, as odd as it sounds, it was just a bit too loud. Some of those high pitched notes caused a slight wince of ear pain, but overall, we were extremely happy to have attended the show.
If you have an opportunity to see him in your area, I strongly recommend your attendance. It was well worth the 2 hr drive each way and the loss of sleep getting home at 1:00 a.m. and having to work the next morning
