Topic: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Susan and I had the great pleasure of seeing KWS play on Sunday night.

First the Venue -  The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA, 120 miles from my home.  Very nice small venue in similar sorts to the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano for any SoCal readers, perhaps a little nicer.  Dinner seating was about 400 with perhaps a few hundred extra folks in the "standing room only" area.  We shared a table with 6 other folks we did not know, but quickly made friends and enjoyed the evening.  Our table was about 20 ft from the stage so the view was outstanding.

In short, KWS killed it. He played everything you would have expected him to play and then a little more.  He went off on a 12 minute blues solo that was simply breathtaking.  It was evident through some of his solo's during the evening that he was paying homage to the likes of SRV

KWS is a Fender Strat  man and all the guitars he played were Strat's, including the KWS signature w/racing stripes.  It is a vary nice looking guitar and sounds fantastic.

He closed the show with a flower decorated Strat and his version of  Voodoo Child in homage to Jimmy.  It absolutely brought the house down.

Kenny's newest live release was on sale that night, but being a fan, I alreay had it.  If you don't alreay have it, I highly recommend it.

Kenny also mentioned that the band is working on a new studio album which should be out in the spring.

If there's any complaint I would have, as odd as it sounds, it was just a bit too loud. Some of those high pitched notes caused a slight wince of ear pain, but overall, we were extremely happy to have attended the show.

If you have an opportunity to see him in your area, I strongly recommend your attendance.  It was well worth the 2 hr drive each way and the loss of sleep getting home at 1:00 a.m. and having to work the next morning

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

His new album is excellent, surely his best up to now.

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

I saw Kenny at the Nugget in Reno on Saturday and he was AMAZING!!!!! Deffinately a must see for a blues rock fan. Got to meet him in the casino walking by... my girlfriend said "HOLY S**T ITS KENNY WAYNE AND NOAH HUNT"  lol  I stopped him and told him how I loved his playing and owned one of his signature guitars and he said "THANKS BRO, I APPRECIATE THAT". Makes it sooooo much better when your hereos are nice guys too. Again the show was amazing....... i agree a little loud but he does use three 100 watt twins.

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Indeed agree this is one to own. Saw the KWSB from front row at the Pittsburgh PA blues fest this summer. They blew the roof off the place !

Tell me about the car i saw parked outside your door ? Tell me what you left me waiting two or three hours for ? Tell me why when the phone rings, baby, your up and across the floor ? Please dont keep me wondering no more.....

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

i refuse to see him again..........as its been the same material for years and years it seems.........i do like that stuff...but he hasnt put out new stuff in forever............glad to hear something new is coming in the spring...

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

I've seen KWS a dozen times. The only thing I have against his live set is that it's the same as it was in 1999.

I can't wait until his new album with NEW Music comes out!

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

I've seen KWS about 7 times but have not been to see him in a few years.  As said before his set lists is stale. I was at his 20 birthday Party and that was a great show but again it was years ago.

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

I always go see KWS when he is in the area.  I love his playing (even if it heavily loaded with SRV homage), and Noah is an awesome singer.  He always sastifies live.  Now if he would only put some effort into more studio material . . . .

Exactly, Joe puts out a new album every year, KWS puts one out every decade. We have been hearing that there is new studio coming out in the Spring for a few Springs now.

You're right Jane - we contacted Kenny about playing here with Bryan Lee (from my hometown) and we have to wait till after April so I'm thinking anyday now....a little KWS !

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

just found out yesterday that Kenny will do a show at Clays Park Resort in North Lawrence Ohio on Aug 20th. What caught my attention is that the opening acts will be Pat Travers and Eric Gales. Now that will be a show to remember, wish we could make it. I see them all assembling at the end of Kenny's set for the mother of all Voodoo Childs. Not that I would drive to Ohio for it, though it would be worth every mile, but son and I will be in Tuscaloosa for Steely Dan that night. oh well, you can't see them all.

Canal Fulton,OH is the correct location.
