Topic: Arm update- Warning! depressing content....

So- it appears my arm is not fixing itself. possibly a non-union.  sad

Very very depressing. It's now got to the stage that I'm umming and ahhhing about buying gear in case I never play again.  sad  sad  sad

Looks like another op and more screws and iron.

I can't tell you how depressed I am about it- especially as I'll have a new plaster on Tues and the one I have, with a lovely msg from JB on it, will go as my arm has shrunk so much the plaster is rattling around like a virgin in a whore.

Anyone wanna buy some Pete Cornish pedals?

hmm

Re: Arm update- Warning! depressing content....

Jakey,

I'm very sorry to hear that, but don't throw in the towel.  Hang in there, and focus on your recovery.  Attitude makes a huge difference in the time it takes to heal.

PS - I just read the post about the reason for your injury.  I hope that you've solved that problem.  You should not remain in that environment.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I don't mean to get into your business, but I am hoping that your doctors have tried a bone stimulator.

Re: Arm update- Warning! depressing content....

Keep your head up man.  Many great players have overcome the odds and remained great players after potential career ending injuries.  Tony Iommi, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.  Good luck with your upcoming surgeries dude, I'll put a special prayer in for you.  The road may be long and arduous, but you'll get it back.  smile

Re: Arm update- Warning! depressing content....

Did I miss what happened jakey?

My old guitar tech had a car flip on top of his car, and crushed all his fingers. He doesn't have lightning, but he can play as good or better than most yet. His fingers actually click when he bends them. sad

If one of your arms is still good, you might be able to learn to play left handed?

Re: Arm update- Warning! depressing content....

Jakey, don't project yourself dude. Time heals all. You will bounce back from this. Worst case scenario you play slide. Hang tough!!

I had two fingers on my fretting hand, index and middle that were almost completely cut off in a work accident. Luckily I was sent to a ace plastic surgeon who was able to reattach both. It took years for the nerves to regenerate but they work now. Just not as I would like but close enough.

Stay Safe

*hands up for Kingsley Jester*

Seriously now, good luck on recovery...a lot of mental determination is important.

Re: Arm update- Warning! depressing content....

best of luck my man! you'll make it! it takes time, but you'll make it!

i was involved in a car wrecked 10 years ago. thrown from a rolling vehicle, and crushed fingers 3,4, and 5 on my left hand. luckily had access to a brilliant hand surgeon who put me back together. when the pins were removed, my fingers were stiff as a board. 3 months of intense therapy, and hours of violin and guitar playing had my playing better than ever within a year.

don't give up!!!!!!

Re: Arm update- Warning! depressing content....

thanks to all...

to the person who said become a lefty- have you any idea how long all that re stringing would take??  lol

slide- slide has always been a closed book to me- i am hopeless.

davewam- you are the first vulture circling, you bugger ;-)

actually at $350 jesters are a steal- and Simon will mark the package as a gift. note the are all 110v.

One thing that helps me- I am an ex first class rugby player (back rower) and one of my closest friends is an ex international of some repute- he has had 12 complete knee reconstructions (anterior cruciate), in the process caught mrsa and went from 105kgs to 85 almost overnight. he fought back- retired now and  walks with a permenant limp at 36 but he played again after his 9th op. if he can get through it so can I and i take inspiration from that.
