Topic: 2550 settings and effect routing question

Excuse me if this topic has been addressed before- and I'm sure it has.  Just don't have time to reseach it.

I have two big shows coming up in a few weeks with a very big name artist.  I'm thinking of running a two amp rig consisting of my Fuchs ODS and a Marshall (non-silver) 2550 Jubilee.  Two questions:

1.  Joe (or anybody else)  How do you set your amps for these.  Your Marshall and "D" style amp together...I need a starting point.  Is it possible to set them to sound good individually as well as together.  I thought I read that the D amp is set really mid heavy and wouldn't necessarily sound good on its own.   True?  Also, is the TS always on with the Marshall?

2.  I don't want a wet/dry set up and I'm thinking of running my rack effect into each amp.  R channel into the Fuch's effect loop and the L into the Marshall's.  This will give me my programmed verb and delays into each amp.  Will I face any grounding or noise problems with this...I've never tried doing this before.

I'll have two weeks to tweak things before the shows so I'll have plenty of time but would like a good reference point.  Thanks guys!!

Re: 2550 settings and effect routing question

A quick stab at your question

1.Set up the 2550 using Joes settings  PRES 5, BASS 12 ,MID 7 , TREB.5 OUTPUT MASTER 12 ,  LEADMASTER YOUR CHOICE. INPUT GAIN 5 or 6.
for your FUCHS set it up as you please but plenty of mids , dont put too much bass other wise it will muddy when both amps combined . I think the trick is to get the big fat saturated sound of the Marshall and them use the FUCHS to get an articulated sound that spikes up the middle of the Marshall. so all the articulation comes from the Fuchs and the body of the sound is the Marshall.

2. you dont need a tube screamer with the Jubilee there is enough gain on tap here likewise the mids on the Jubilee dont need to be bossted as thats the job of the Fuchs

3. you should be ok with your rack effects as long as they dont suck any tone . as for grounding issues dont kow till you try it but for simplicity BOSSDD3 in Marshall loop and BOSS RV5 on Fuchs would do good.
I use a similar setup using LEHLE dual , providence sov od (great pedal by the way) Boss ce2 and boss ge5 .and wha pedal
I find it a very versatile rig and I dont play Joes style of music   big_smile

12?! Mine only goes to 11 but it's "only" a Ceriatone.  wink
The best amp I have (after 30-40 hrs of burn-in time). Apologies for digressing, I'm still in honeymoon phase.

Bass 12 wow anything over 8 and mine gets to muddy. Here is how I run mine, of course I am only using the one head.

PRES 3, BASS 7-8 ,MID 7 , TREB 4-5 OUTPUT MASTER 8 ,  LEADMASTER 6  GAIN 5 or 6.

Re: 2550 settings and effect routing question

I have a 2553 as well but I am running V30's which might be why they get muddy with the bass past 8. I have never played her through the EV's if I could find some I would.

Re: 2550 settings and effect routing question

I ran a Jub 2553 through my THD 2x12 which is Century Vintage loaded - I had tight low end right up until 10...sparkly highs as well...without the sharpness...

Haven't had that with many amps through that cab since...so...that was a nice amp.

I don't own one.  hmm
