Topic: fender hot rod deville

Hey All-

Anyone with one of these able to get a decent, thick, semi clean, dumble style tone out of one of these? I bought one when i was young and wanted to be like SRV, now im trying to figure out the best way to blend it with a marshall ala Mr.  Bonamassa.

Thanks!
Logan

Well, the clean channel on the hot rod series are great platforms for pedals.  My first suggestion however would be to make sure you got a good set of power tubes and preamp tubes; then upgrade the speakers.  Then invest on a Zendrive or a Providence.  Make sure to crank the amp loud!

Fucks plush drive maybe into the clean channel?

Re: fender hot rod deville

Hi,

I use this amp at rehearsals, and use the good old trick of using a volume pedal in the loop in order to crank the amp without loosing the rest of my hearing:-) Actually I use a Boss GE-7 and reduces the level on the pedal (which do the same as a volume pedal in the loop).

The amp is so fX%& loud and as most amps, it needs to be cranked real hard to get a good tone. I use mostly the crunch channel with some gain, and turn the volume up. BB Preamp, OCD or Tubescreamer in front gives you some good tones.

Keep rocking!

I'd find an old Marshall Guv'nor pedal... they can make nice fender-y clean amp get a darker Marshall dirty sound. I liked the one I tried a lot through a Sovtek Mig 50, and it was right up there with the 800 when driven with the pedal.

Actually, other than meticulous build quality and some really amazing power and output transformers, the real secret to the dumble deal is all about the EQ.  I still say the factory speakers and a new set of tubes does wonders for these amps;  really turned the one I used to have from bleh to ppl actually telling me "dude, how do you get that tone out of a DeVille?"  A cheap sort of trial thing would be to put an EQ in the loop.  I have done that before with my old Budda Twinmaster Plus and twas a great tone shaping tool.

Logan:  Before you do that....check this website out:

I've been thinking about having Jim do this mod for my Deville or recently purchased HR Deluxe and am about to pull the trigger.  There's a relatively new poster on here, whose name I forget, who has actually had it done and had very nice things to say about it.  There's a ton of positive reviews on Harmony Central and TDPRI, and check out the clips.

I'll have mine back in a week or two and report back if you're not in a hurry :-)
