Topic: Marshall AFD100 - The new silver jubilee??

Hello all.

Came across some adverts for the Marshall AFD100.  Slash's new signature amp.  Does anyone know if it is based on the silver jubilee like his 80s signature amp or something different?  Can't seem to find much about it other than the tale of the original 'Appetite' amp.

Does look nice though
Thanks

I wonder how well it's built...?  roll

Well, I'm guessing it's not a Jub in a box - but will do some pretty good Marshall tones...

Re: Marshall AFD100 - The new silver jubilee??

Not another Jubilee. It appears to me as Marshall is trying to catch lightning in a bottle. I hope they succeed. This amp will definitely be one to try out! Kudos to Slash for getting another signature Marshall amp!

Re: Marshall AFD100 - The new silver jubilee??

Its not Based on the Jubilee but a rented modded Plexi that Slash used on AFD. The Jubilee wasn't even built until AFD came out. The Jub is the amp on everything after AFD.

Other weird piece of history the same amp was rented by George Lynch and used on a couple of Dokken albums and then was lost and never found again.

I am full of useless knowledge today!

Oh one more piece of Slash knowledge the Les Paul he used on AFD wasn't a gibson but a custom built clone.

Re: Marshall AFD100 - The new silver jubilee??

Big E you are correct. I read Slash' autobiography (a GREAT read btw) and he STILL uses the clone here and there for certain things. The amp he used for the AFD sessions he claimed was a "modded" Marshall (don't recall if it was a Plexi or an 800) that he rented and then tried to steal from the rental company. I wasn't aware George Lynch had it...

Lynch no longer has it the amp was lost after Slash tried to steal it and hasn't ever turned up. I read his book to, great read!

HA I didn't read the link! I already knew.... Now I have to go read the link! HA HA HA

Re: Marshall AFD100 - The new silver jubilee??

The guy that wrote that link should read the Slash book, Slash also used a BC Rich with a Trem on it for AFD but 90% of it is the custom built Les Paul. I have read most of that in guitar interviews over the years.

I think people who chase other people tone always end up a bit disipointed because they never quite get there. No two people play guitar the same so getting the same tone is next to impossable. But its fun trying a learn new tricks! big_smile

Absolute true!  cool

Re: Marshall AFD100 - The new silver jubilee??

Remember - it's like the tone chasers of EVH...no one realises that his tone was shrill and not the round brown sound everyone thinks one the first album - production and engineering techniques (there's a lot of reverb on there) made it a hell of a lot smoother and thicker...plus his fingers made up for most of it - you can't chase EVH's fingers...well, you can try.

Your right. Don't chase others tone. You'll be f'n frustrated and end up with more gear than you'll be able to afford or resell. Go out and cut a new groove.
