best guitar I own and a Kenny wayne shepherd start which I love the neck on. I got it used for £350 and it sounds and plays great. Compromise is it came in white with the cross on it. Easy fix, got a 62 reissue body on fleabay and swapped everything over. Best strat I have owned.

I hear there is more and better tone in a thicker neck... according to KWS and some others who like their necks thicker.

I didn't start this thread to "poo-poo" signature guitars. I have no problem with them. I always sort of liked the SRV strat, since friend had one and I enjoyed the feel. I came really close to buying a John Mayer strat. It sounded really good, and felt great. His name was inconspicuously on the back of the neck. I remember being impressed with the Peavey Wolfgang EVH when it first came out in the early 90's too.The Jackson Randy Rhoads model is a magnificent guitar too. ... And of course, if I could afford it, I'd get that JB sig. Les Paul off ebay.

I think signature guitars are a good thing, in my case the grissom is the ultimate PRS. The KWS ticked all the boxes for me as far as strats are concerned. I just don;t like signatures that are too obvious. If I were to buy a SRV strat the first thing I would do is change the scratchplate out.

When I was shopping for a strat 15 years ago I ended up w/ an SRV sig.  I absolutely love the neck, I like the texas special in the neck position, and it's a very lively, resonant guitar.  A great strat all around.  That said, before I even took it home I replaced the pickguard w/ generic perloid one.

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

Only occasionally do sig. guitars match that of the people out there...exactly. Of course you wouldn't say much if you've shelled out for one of them...but some people do mention that certain parts can be...odd.

Saying that...christ, give me a JP BB sig...now!

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

I'm still waiting for the AD3 Signature model myself.   tongue

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

At first when I read the thread title I too was a little bit in the "ewww Nickelback gets a Les Paul" camp but after watching the Gibson interview with Chad I have changed my opinion on this.  Chad is not a 'guitar hero' by most people's standards, he isn't a classic rock or blues guy, and he sells millions of records.  That will no doubt turn a lot of people off when there are absolutely insane guitar players that will go their whole lives without Gibson/Fender/Ibanez/PRS/etc even batting an eye their way.

The fact of the matter is, EVERYONE in the music community has heard of Nickelback.  They play sold out stadiums and sell tons of records.  If some kid wants to pick up the guitar because they went to see a Nickelback show then why shouldn't Gibson try and capitalize on that.  Less than 2 months after I saw Joe for the first time I ran out and bought my first and only Les Paul....

BTW Chad seems to be a really humble and nice dude.  I'm in no way a Nickelback fan whatsoever, but I say congrats to the guy.  Let's not forget that the 'Les Paul' is ALREADY a signature guitar folks.  wink

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

Not as bad as Gibson offering a Jack Bauer sig 335 a few years ago. Seriously.

Remember Gibson sniped Brent Mason for his signature Vally Arts Tele after he played that Blue Fender Tele for years. Fender dropped the ball on that one...

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

I've just ordered an Epiphone Bonamassa Signature to add to my collection. Looking forward to checking out a Les Paul with burstbuckers and a nice flat 12" radius neck.

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

I played a Avril lavigne Signature tele one night as a dare from another band mate. It was ok... Ok I lied what a POS... Where is Bruce Springsteen's Signature Tele.  Avril here you go have your own model... Bruce sorry buddy but no one cares. Mike Campbell sorry no tele for you... Its all BS.  Companies used to actually feel like things like this matter.  Our society pretty much sucks so they'll sell anything with with a logo on it for a buck.

Man you are so right. To quote Billy Walsh from 'Entourage' ... 'Suits Suck'.
Corporate Whores are everywhere in the guitar world.
I think my first ever realisation of what a Tele was was from the cover of Born To Run. And Bruce gets nothing.
I guess dudes in their 40's listening to The Boss don't buy signature guitars, Or so Fender think.
Id like to think Fender offered him one and he told them to stick it. Kinda like what Dylan might do if he were asked.

Mike Campbell has a signature dussenberg, maybe he told fender to stuff it?

At the end of the day guitar companies are profit driven companies just like anyone else. Be it Apple, Ford, Audi, Sony or whoever. Bottom line is if they don't make no money then they ain't makin guitars. I'm afraid we can't have it both ways.

It depends. If you like the way it plays, the way it sounds, the look of it, absolutely. If not, it doesn't. It's always up the player.

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

I'm not a NB fan, but I really like the way that LP looks...sig or not, it's pretty cool looking.  I bought my JB LP because I really loved the way the Bonnaburst models look, and the neck feels perfect in my hands.  That's how I pick all my guitars, how they feel, how they sound, and how they catch my eye.  I couldn't care less if there's a name on it.

Then again, anyone playing an LP is already playing a signature model.

Re: Nickelback sig. les paul (boo gibson)

Technically every guitar player has their own signature model... the one guitar they wouldn't be seen without, the one that looks best slung over their shoulders.

For me that'd be either a Vintage Icon V100 or a Gibson Les Paul Traditional.

On the topic of this thread... despite the fact this is made by Chad Kroeger and that Gibson are mad claiming him to be so "diverse", as has already been said, at least it says Blackwater and not CK. Glad of it. I'd probably have one. But I wouldn't dare mention it was designed by CK.  hmm
