Topic: Orange Amps

New music store in my area stocks Orange Amps.  I am kicking around the idea of a Rockerverb 50 head.  It is my understanding these heads can use EL34's, 6L6's, kt88's or other similar sized tubes by just flipping a switch when changing them out.  I have minimal playing time on it but would like to hear other opinions or experiences with Orange amps before I do something crazy.  They are a little pricey.  Thanks!

Re: Orange Amps

I have only played them it stores and LOVE them, even my wife stopped and said "That thing sounds amazing" when we where at the music store. Now not amazing enought to let me get that and a les paul, but none the less great amps!

Re: Orange Amps

Some videos I have on youtube playing it... Let me know if you have any question about the amp  wink

Re: Orange Amps

I have a Rockerverb 100 head...(slightly modded with bits that only my tech knows about) and it's fitted with KT88s...and it roars.
Love the dark flavour and the sag it has - I've chosen this over all the Marshalls I've owned, an Engl Blackmore and plenty of boutique hand-wired stuff.

...the thing weighs a ton though.

Re: Orange Amps

I actually like the duel terror.  Its low wattage but it can push a full stack without a problem.  Plus I like the ability to get some breakup before my eardrums bleed.

Re: Orange Amps

Cool clips/tone man! I really like the live clips there - you've got a really tight band and a nice variety of material in your set list. Now I think I need a vacation to Portugal to see you guys play... wink

Thanks man! I'm actually not playing in Portugal anymore, just moved to London this week to study at a music school. Anyway, a vacation in Portugal is always a good idea!  wink

Re: Orange Amps

The Orange and Engl cabs are quite awesome...but I know the Engl Pro is around 60kg and the Orange over 50kg...that's not cool for the back...

Re: Orange Amps

cool sounding band, and I don't like country.

Re: Orange Amps

Spider and VBac, thanks for posting those videos.  Always nice to hear what you are considering.  Price is the drawback.  Slightly over two grand for the head only.  Marshall DSL can be had used in the $700.00 range.  I love my old Fender heads and will never sell them, but I want a good British voiced amp with a good effects loop.  Blackberry Smoke is a good southern rock band that is gaining momentum in my area, especially across the river in Kentucky.

Re: Orange Amps

i've been thinking of going down the orange root for quite some time now. i've now got it down to three contenders for the job.

the dual terror, the new TH30 and the Rocker 30.

all of these are 30 watt two channel amps, though the rocker and the TH have a dedicated clean channel.

the rocker30 has a full EQ section for the dirty channel, but just a single volume control for the clean channel. the TH30 has better controls for the clean channel, but just a shape control for the dirty channel. the TH30 also has an fx loop, which could be useful.

the dual terror has two channels, one normal and one fat. one of these could be set cleanish, but how clean and loud it'd be i'm a little unsure.

also price wise i'm looking at £465 for the dual terror, £645 for the rocker30 and £579 for the TH30. with a £350 quid trade in on my blues deluxe, it's looking like between the dual terror and TH30 at the moment.
