ok i really like the sound that the taylors get.......specifically those with the spruce tops..........anybody have any experiences or preferences with any particular Taylor acoustic guitar..............im selling some of my mid range acoustics..and im going to save up and get a Taylor.........i have played many of them and just wondered what some others have thought.

I have a model 614CE that I picked up used in excellent shape from EBay. It has a maple body and back so it tends to accentuate the highs. It's just that the flame in the wood is so outrageous that I had to bid on it (and won it at the minimum bid) or I would have gone for a rosewood model. I would definitely stick with rosewood or ovangkol. Mahogany or sapele have different resonant tones. If you go to the Taylor website they have a page on the different woods and an approximation of the frequency response.
I played a Taylor 12 string that was a demo model when I visited the factory this past March. I think it was a model 855.
If I ever go for an acoustic 12, that's the puppy!!!

I have an 814ce (rosewood) that sounds and plays fantastic. They have great customer support as well. Take a look at their web site, it's very informative.
I have a lower end model the 114ce acoustic/electric. The sound on this guitar is incredible even wothout it being plugged in. I played one just like yours at a local GC that totally walked on some of the $2K-$3K Taylor models. Absolutely do not overlook the cheaper models because there are some really magic ones out there. I vastly preferred the "plugged in" sound of the higher end models but for simple acoustics some of the cheapies RULE.

I have a 114e, it's an entry model grand auditorium sized Taylor... $740 or so dollars...
I played it against the Taylors that were in the thousands - and while those were nice, I went home with the 114e. Sounded just as good. It beat all the guitars in the shop. I'd been going back for weeks and it was still there, and it kept beating all the others... so it was NOT an impulse buy. 
I know Roy Bluesman on the forum is happy with his 214ce too. His has a cutaway and mine doesn't.
highly recommended at any price level.
thats how i feel about the 214ce that i have been trying out.........people say save the extra 500 and get the 313ce as it is solid back and sides as opposed to the laminate back and sides of the 214.............but i really love how the 214ce feels in my hands and i like how it sounds as well..............i can tell a difference in the sound,,,but not 500 dollars worth and i actually think i like the 214 sound a bit better..........i should have enough saved up for it by Christmas!!! cant wait
I just thought I'd add a line from a show last year where we heard Shawn Jones play a "baby" Taylor as the opener for Joe. I know zip about guitars but this had a huge tone for a little git. He said he bought it to play and write with on his boat 'cause it was little, then decided to put a pickup in it and was amazed. I have a full mahogany baby Taylor its fantastic such great tone it gets a lot of compliments I bought it after a few mins playing acoustics it out shone the lot
614CE here too...Beautiful Maple look and sounds...

Hi all,
Don't know if im too late, but i just went through the "which taylor should i get" and thought id lend my 2.
I really didn't know a ton about the different woods available outside of the norms. I must have played 100 different taylors before deciding on last years fall limited cocobolo GS. I am a huge fan of rosewoods-thats all i own- and coco is of the family. this thing plays its self. list is 5k, but there are still a few kickin around that haven't sold yet. www.wildwoodmusic.com has killer deals.
this baby has a primo sitka top, coco back and sides, and an ebony board. my favorite thing is the adirondack bracing. it gives a voice that i haven't been able to find before. its awesome!
if you're gonna spend 15-18 on a lower series, you'll get a great guitar, but i urge you to save a little while longer if needs be and get some excellent wood. i almost went for a 4 series, and am so glad i held out!! check that wildwood page. they have beautiful instruments for even prettier prices!!
