Re: Ryan McGarvey

Ryan has himself a whole new following since the cruise, he really packed them in at his shows! He brought the house down more than once, loved everything about him. Genuinely truly nice guy cool and Sam & Logan too!    p.l.j.

OMG !!! These guys are some cool cats !!!!
Touches me to see that they rocked that house down.
Together with some other fans I followed the showdown of Ryan's show on a tiny mobile at the Grolsch Blues Festival. We could hear nothing and didn't see too much … but we saw the crowd moving, rocking, clapping hands and the happy faces of Ryan, Logan and Sam at the end of the show … and we knew the band killed it !!!

Rock'n'roll cool lol cool

Yes, we attended Ryan's gig in Miltenberg, so much fun. " The Road Chosen" material is worth to catch it: Either on CD or better of course live! ( Or both)

Ryan is getting more well known here in Europe and he can be very happy having Manni Kuesters as his manager... Such a cool guy!!! Sam Miller does great work on bass and Logan Miles Nix on drums.

A must hear/see in Oct in the Musiktheater Rex in Bensheim. Ryan promised to play " So Close To Heaven" there on our signed CD. Sweet. Looking forward to this special moment...

Would be great to see him on the Blues Cruise II again.

Re: Ryan McGarvey

2 blisterin' shows from Ryan this week-end here in N.East England; Hartlepool's Belle Vue (where it all started) and Gateshead's Sage 2. two very different venues that are going to put Ryan & the band at a bit of a crossroads.

Firstly Belle Vue; after the full house was warmed up by a tasty local band The Picaroons, Ryan, Sam & Logan took the stage and blew the walls out. A good mix of Road Chosen songs, Memphis, Little Red Riding Hood, and Redefined numbers like Blues Knocking At My Door and even a couple of brand new songs like Drunken Dream before the big Gibson was put down and the ol' Strat was picked up for amongst others Firework Eyes, Cryin' Over You I Wish I Were Your Man and Texas Special. Then we got a treat, Ryan brought out his early birthday present, a Hendrix patterned Cigar-box guitar which, picking up his slide, he gave a dynamic, delta-style spanking for 5 minutes. Putting that aside, steaming, it was time to pick up the Les Paul and the set climax, Mystic Dream - like Norse Gods having angry sex.... Belle Vue screamed for an encore and out came Logan and did to the drums what Ryan does to his guitars, before Sam and the man came out and a blitzing Joyride and before the notes of that died, a mighty Immigrant Song.

The Sage gig followed much the same form, though the start was re-jigged so that Memphis was the opener. A good number of the 400 or so in the room were 1st timers (one guy travelled 200 miles for the show), and were pinned back. Again, a couple of new numbers were showcased among the ol & new favourites. Possibly there were time constrictions, but the Cigar-box wasn't included and Joyride was absent from the encore, but otherwise, the boys delivered another almighty show.

So, what next? Even though the audience at Hartlepool was less than half at The Sage, they were twice as loud in their appreciation of the band while no doubts The Sage was a bigger show and audience and if there were a chance of a recording of Ryan in the UK, the Sage would have been the show in terms of sound quality. Ryan's at that crossroads now - either keep it at the grass roots Roadhouse kind of venues, but more of them; or, up for the bigger rooms. Either way he deserves the success and accolades he's gathering.

Until the next time guys.....

Re: Ryan McGarvey

Linda Valentine deserves great credit for putting him on at the Sage to get a bigger platform. It was a gamble that thankfully worked. I heard the merch stall was ultra busy. The sets followed a similar pattern to the earlier Scottish shows which I attended. However, a lot of people had left before the end at both gigs so not sure whats next for him in the UK. Personally I hope he continues to escalate here but wish he would cut down the 20 minute Mystic Dream. He is more rock than blues nowadays but the likes of Cryin For You gets the biggest applause.

His new guitar is not a big Gibson but a D'Angelico make. He told me it was shipped over to him for this tour.

Thanks for putting me right re the new guitar; really nice tone to it - the old eyes aren't that good from the back of Belle Vue or the Gods at the Sage.
Noticed at Hartlepool that folk were starting to drift away early and the show didn't finish until just before midnight - almost thought it was going to be a "lock-in"..... Mind, I'm surprised you didn't hear the applause from Hartlepool where you are.
And yes, there was brisk trade at the merch post-gig at Gateshead.
