Re: Ryan McGarvey

Thanks Liz for the FB info.  Ryan is playing Dallas on Sept 8.  From 10 p.m. till 1:30 a.m.  I can finish watching the LSU v Washington football game then head in to Big D and catch Ryan's show.  Myabe I can get his new CD there cause I still can't find it online.

Re: Ryan McGarvey

When are we going to be able to order the cd? Seems to be taking a long time, especially with sites like CD Baby available for selling independent releases (his first one is still on there).

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Ryan McGarvey

He posted a lament about the lack of progress in his career on facebook. I advised he hit the road since he was going nowhere stuck in Albequerque. Looks like he took my advice. Now if he'd just reverse course and head West.
Give this excellent artist support when he comes near. He needs street teamers!

Friend him on facebook and check his status where he adds tour dates as they come up. I dropped him a line and mentioned he had a thread here. Maybe he'll join in and give us some info. big_smile

The dates for the Midwest have been in the works for quite some time. Contracts and negotiations and routing can be a major pain in the a$$. Ryan has been aware of this thread from the beginning and lurks in from time to time.

Getting the new CD available for online purchase is still being worked out. It is not as easy as some think.... but for anyone who is able to make it to any of the shows, the CD's will be available for purchase there.

Thanks Gal!  Really nice picture of Ryan in Nightwatcher's July interview, by the way.  Love to see that guitar whenever he comes.

Rick, please be careful about how your interpret things.... proof that Ryan checks this thread....

"I just thought I needed to comment again on a post I previously made reflecting on my career: I've NEVER had any grief/etc about my career. In fact, I was celebrating my career. I appreciated the compliments, and kind words I received, but I wasn't fishing for compliments either. I was just reminiscing on some of the things I've done so far, and how I was excited to see what else the future will bring. I have played in many states across the country, and 5 additional countries in Europe (and will soon add more). I've never been stuck in NM. It is my HOME. It's a difficult thing touring (in every aspect). Not everyone realizes. I'm very happy, and ALWAYS thankful for having such great supporters, and fans. I think some took my last post as complaining, which couldn't be further from the truth. Things happen, when they happen, for a reason. And, I've always done things the right/smart way and sometime they take some time. Thus is the case with our new CD. It WILL be for sale very soon online btw. There has just been some issues with previously used online distributors. Thank you all for everything! In a lot of cases (some truly amazing/great fans (friends)) work with me just as hard- if not harder on helping us out. You all ROCK, and I really do love you for it. Sincerely, a very appreciative/thankful and feeling very well accomplished- RM"

I read that as well Rhonda. You seem closer to the source. There were many replies to his original post from fans expressing encouragement, support and ideas. It read like he was disappointed with the struggle to get going and maybe a little down on himself that day. From where I sit looking on from afar, and I get all his posts to my em, it seems that although NM may be his home, he needs to do what he is doing right now to break out of that regional base. Just my opinion. He seemed to have stalled after the European tour and was doing most things without much help since he asks for ideas for gig sites from his fans on fb.  I certainly could be wrong there. More power to him. He's surely not the only good artist in that boat these days. I got the new CD from a friend who got it at a gig and it is very good! smile As others have posted, there is a demand for the CD and some frustration trying to get it. Go Ryan!

Re: Ryan McGarvey

Ryan is doing it himself. It is frustrating I'm sure. Nothing that Joe hasn't gone through just not the same access to social media back then to lament. Joe did have Roy and when I first met him a booking agent. Although there are many more ways for an Independent artist to get noticed there is much more noise to sift through. Joe broke through he is a one in a million statistic in the genre. Ryan has the 90+ fastball. He is learning how to pitch now still doesn't mean he will make it to the show. Joe has the fastball, the curve and a wicked change up. More than anything he can hit too. He has all the tools honed and has been at it for twenty years. Ryan still needs to work on his other tools and yes he needs to take the show on the road. It is so hard to do that now. Even harder when your doing it alone. Hope the baseball metaphors weren't too lame.

You're welcome! Immediately thought of you when I received it and knew you would want to go smile Sounds like a perfect Saturday! Have a great time can't wait to hear all about it.  Was hoping there might be a stop in Kentucky while he was this far east if only there was an extra day between Nashville & Indy! Both about 4 hours away and tickets to see Robert Cray & KWS in Cincy on the Nashville date, so difficult to work out either of those shows at that distance sad  I'm sure the will be another opportunity to stop here down the road smile

Re: Ryan McGarvey

I made it to 4 of the shows:
Nashville, Indianapolis, Davenport (Bettendorf), and Kansas City.

Ryan picked up a TON of new fans! The Davenport show was packed and standing room only! People were anxious to see Ryan again after he played at a festival there last July.

Nashville had a special guest, Reese Wynans of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Reese had a blast. Later that evening some friends of mine that I had come out to the show, Calvin Johnson and Gabriel Strange sat in with Ryan. Calvin was Anthony Gomes bass player for a while and Gabriel was Devon Allmans drummer in Devon Allman's Honeytribe.

I was unable to photograph at two of the shows because of poor/no lighting, but was able to get some video.

I drove straight from Kansas City to work today so will be uploading more videos and working on photos later this weekend and will post the links here as I add stuff.
