Topic: Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch

I've been listening to Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch's Upside Your Head and have to say it's an impressive debut in league with any I've heard this year.  On their MySpace review their blues is described as Rory Gallagher meets Joe Bonamassa meets Johnny Winter.  From toe-tappin' bluesrock to traditional acoustic it's all good.  There's even a slide version of "Red River Valley".

Re: Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch

He opened for Jim Suhler and Monkey Beat here a couple of weeks ago. Jim and Jason were doing some dates together. They are currently sharing Jason's drummer.

Jason reminded my a lot of Suhler on slide but then started peeling the layers away to reveal a very versitle guitarist. Jim also produced the CD for him.

Jim supposedly plays on a couple of tunes.  I'm thinking one's the acoustic  "That's the Way Its Got to Be".  I can't decide which song I like best, but "Dracula Bite" is a cool song that reminds me of sixties psychadelic rock.  "Evil" reminds me of a lost Stray Cats hit and "Big Money Grip" has got a James Gang meets the Fabulous T-Birds vibe.  You can pick the influences, Suhler being one for sure, but this excellent album escapes being derivitive.  The guitar playing on "All It Does Is Rain" sounds like early Joe - great slow blues!

Re: Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch

In prep for attending the SRV Memorial Ride & Concert this year I've been ordering cd's by the acts that will be there that I did not have anything by. I got this one in last Saturday. Great cd, great guitarist. Looking forward to seeing him live.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch

I wanted to "resurrect" this post about a musician that I think will continue to amaze me and he is a really nice guy too.

In a previous post, Curby had mentioned Jason doing a slide version of "Red River Valley". I asked Jason about it and he said he had JB's "Django" in mind.

Here is the link to the band's website: www.reverbnation.com/jasonelmoreandhoodoowitch

Here is a link to one of my favorite songs he does:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s5MdkM9Jic

I had a feeling you would be there, Jim. It's a little too far for us to drive to OKC and back.

We keep his schedule on our fridge.

We may go see him tomorrow at Poor David's Pub for a KNON Bluesfest.

Enjoy!

Re: Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch

Just got back. Really like Jason. Has been heavily influenced by Jim Suhler. Very good guitar player with exceptional voice. Plays a lot of standard blues covers but does manage to add his twist to them. The originals are good. Highlight of the night was the Beatle's medley instrumental. I would of liked seeing the Les Paul a bit more preferred the tone of it over the Stats. I have a bit of a bias towards Gibsons.

Re: Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch

My friend Jason Elmore and his band Hoodoo Witch just got "crowned" Best Blues Act in Dallas.

We are so proud of him.

His 2nd CD will be released I think in Feb. and of course Jim Suhler has a hand in it.

Can't wait to hear it.
