Topic: Oh no...so much lost!

I'm not a fan of the music...but I felt slightly sick reading that.
I would be slightly more than gutted if a similar thing happened to me.

Have you read some of the things those guys owned?  yikes
I just hope the '59 LP count is zero.

Any similar, unexpected losses happened to people?

Re: Oh no...so much lost!

If Keith Urban lost his gear, than another one of Joe’s children is included.

it's Sad for everyone.

Re: Oh no...so much lost!

There's a real opportunity for an enterprising tech firm there. I've done rehab on immersed amps and it can be done well. Fresh water isn't that bad to recover from if you get to it quickly. Wash it all down with clean fresh water, drench it in a commercial water displacing solvent like Boeshield, then bake in a 200 degree oven for a few days. The guitars are a different deal since the wood warps and delaminates. Sad.

The Symphony Hall was also flooded. 2 Steinway pianos, all the air sources and console for the huge pipe organ and structural damage.  sad

Re: Oh no...so much lost!

yeah, we watched very closely and some of those people just kept right on driving into the high water. Some made it, some did not. The equipment loss is sad, but all that stuff can be repaired or replaced (maybe not with the original item). The 18 or so people that died by drowning, now that was the real tragedy. People down here will just not listen to reason when it comes to tornado and flood warnings. Much of that came on fast, like 12" of rain in a 24 to 36 hour period.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Re: Oh no...so much lost!

Same thing here AH. We get occasional seasonal flooding in low areas by our local, usually dry river. People will drive around a barrier that says "flooded do not cross" to die. Natures way I guess.

Man thats horrible especially Vinces red ES-335 was the first guitar his parents bought for him when he was a kid. Hope that didnt get lost in the spin cycle. Im sure there are other irreplaceable pieces lost forever.

Re: Oh no...so much lost!

Exactly. When Katrina went down a few years ago a Les Paul that was pretty messed up surfaced (no pun intended) on eBay. The guy who put the money into fixing her fittingly named her Katrina. Here's the thread from the Les Paul Forum:

As far as I know the restoration isn't complete yet, apparently the guy has a lot on his plate. I'll look out for updates though.

...looks like a guitar from Mad Max or some other futuristic, apocalyptic film.
Amazing...totally ruined.

Re: Oh no...so much lost!

A lot of folks in the Nashville area lost much more than just their gear. Some lost their lives, most lost their homes.
