Topic: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

So I got this way huge swollen pickle the other day... I love saying that.  Anyway its a MKII jumbo fuzz.  I really disliked it at first after tweeking on it the first night.  Honestly wished I had my old big muff back at that point.  The fuzz Clipped too much and sounded muddy and it was like that with the sustain turned down too.  the tone filter suck to me it add bass boost in monster sized amounts, unuseable after about halfway.  Mid scoup is the best feature on it barely turning that knob results in what I think is feels like 100 Db boost, exageration of course.  Chrunch has no point to it on the pedal.  I've adjusted that knob and see that it really takes away from the sound if you use it.

Fast forward to last night I removed the back and adjusted the 2 trem pots inside.  Cranked the crunch knob around and still hated it.  However it is more usable.  Cranked the mids scoop up inside and WOW!  Presto changeo I found a setting I've been looking for.  Honestly like flipping a footswitch I had this really creamy smooth distortion that still had a lot of bite to it but gave me that Pink Floyed type sound.  I'm in love with my Way Huge Swollen Pickle and I'm happy now.  doubt I would like the original as they said it was more like the first settings I tried.  Highly suggest trying one out for yourself.

Re: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

I just got one myself and hate it.  I'll have to try your trick.  It just seems cheap to me as well.  Great marketing but so far it ends there for me.   I'll spend more time with it.....

Re: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

I'm not saying its the best out there and personally I still feel like you can get a cheaper fuzz pedal that works just as good if not better, but that setting I found on there will work for me for the time being.  Its more gain than I usually use so it will be a new flavor to my weapons.  I will say by its self I like that new setting, and before I hated it all together... but I could use a overdrive pedal say TS808 taste and it makes a world of difference to the stock settings, but who wants to run 2 or 3 pedals to get one great sound.  I like just simple stuff 1 pedal making that sound and then an overdrive on the solos as a boost tops.  Thats what I got with that setting, and I hope it makes your fuzzy dreams come to life.

big_smile   Me too!  I hope to tear into it a little this weekend!

Re: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

I too, was somewhat dissapointed at first; however, once you open it up, you see both the clip and voice are all the way to the left. Once you open these up, you get a much better range of sounds.

I love it now.

Re: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

So this pedal was the most disappointing pedal out of the box but the best pedal with some tweaking.  You absolutely have to open it up and set it up for your rig.  Love it.  I probably would have not put so much time into this pedal without the insight.  thanks!

Re: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

I'm glad you like it now.  I tried it out at 3 band practices and the thing at low volume sounded totally different then loud volumes.  My biggest problem with it is VOLUME!  I click that pedal and have the output turned down low and it blows everybody including me out of the room.  I am not into turning tons of knobs to get my sound and I hate to be like this after praising it earlier but I hate this pedal.  Most useless pedal I own.  If I wanted to play Iron Butterfly I've got that tone nailed but totally wasn't what I'm after.  I want a Tone Bender type sound and this one might have it in there but I've grown tired of tweaking top knobs, inside knobs and amp knobs.  So be on the lookout for a Swollen Pickle tonight on ebay.

Re: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

big_smile   I'm fortunate in that I only have to get it dialed in for me.  Did you try moving it around in your chain a little?  It's third in line and works really well there for me.  Now watch me plug in this afternoon and hate it again! ahahaha

Re: Way Huge Swollen Pickle

Maybe I'll try that again before I get rid of it.  I played around with it last night moving it around because it was 7 in my chain, I had it like that because it was a pain to undo everything.  Jimi Hendrix used to put the fuzz infront of the fuzz instead of after and it was better like that but I wasn't sold on it still.  I guess I wont know until we practice again because the amp is really turned down when I'm trying it at home.
