Topic: Orgasmic Les Paul

I've always had a love hate affair with Les Pauls. The best one I had was an early 70's deluxe gold top with minibuckers. I loved it and sold it about 8 years ago for £1200. Would be worth £3000 now Grrr...

Anyway, I sold a burst recently- I always struggled with it- was a lump, which is generally my feeling about most LP's - I bought a quilt top Class 5 which is OK-ish, but for JB I tend to use a 335, which feedsback a little when cranked unfortunately.

However on Saturday, I found a first series Gary Moore sig that had had loads of work done on it by Charlie Chandler- bumble bees, improved pots, special pups, Chandler set up, but best of all, it weighs 6.5 lbs and plays like a god.

I am in love with this guitar. It's exactly what I want from a LP. Not quite the usual bells whistles- it's all unbound for a start- but it has a delicious quilt top and is a tone monster, and is naturaly 'road worn' which I rather like too.

Anyway, I've made an offer on it which includes taking the Class 5 in p-ex, so watch this space.....hopefully get it Tuesday or Weds.

Re: Orgasmic Les Paul

Yeah, I had my eye on one of the GM BFGs when they first came out. But then I had an Epi LP Standard which played great but I didn't like the pickups. I dropped in a P94R in the neck position and a 498T in the bridge. Problem solved. OK it's a bit hevier than yours (mine goes around 9 lbs) and irt doesn't have a nice quilt top (although the piece of maple laminate they used together with the trans amber finish) it still looks really nice.

Let us know how you like the BFG.

Re: Orgasmic Les Paul

So I bought it. It's not a BFG- it's the 90's version Custom Shop made. Loving it.

Re: Orgasmic Les Paul

beautiful.  Very nice.....

Re: Orgasmic Les Paul

When they first began advertising this guitar they called it the Gary Moore BFG. They have since dropped that designation.
Let us know how it plays. When I saw GM in London last spring he played it for only one song (Mojo Boogie).

Re: Orgasmic Les Paul

It's a beauty. Orange LP anyone? I love it.

Did they call the Gary Moore signature "BFG" originally? Obviously, there's a difference between this and the current Gary Moore BFG, the latter being less expensive and sporting a P-90 in the neck position.

It is not BFG it's a Gary sign from 90's
He is using the same here, I think  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp3P7UGz … re=related
Now, there is the BFG signature with p90 in neck position and killswitch. He used it in Poland last autumn for Mojo Boogie, played slide on it. I think that BFG is a lot cheaper than the version that Jakey has wink

Re: Orgasmic Les Paul

I found out a little more- it was the original GM sig from the 90's. Totally diff guitar than the BFG.

Thing is, I have actually found a LP i really like playing.

Re: Orgasmic Les Paul

where do you live, jakey? been dying to try out my cat burglary skills smile

only joking, that's a great looking guitar. i can remember loving those when they came out, though couldn't afford it then and still can't now.

i know what you mean when you find that particular that just plays so well.
i picked up one of the vintage brand reliced les paul clones and was blown away by it. for the price point, it's a great guitar.
