Re: Joe and phasers

The custom shop script Phase 90 is a very good clone of the original and I'd highly recommend it (bit different from the Dynacomp script re-issue which is a shocker- sounds NOTHING like the original whatsoever.....I backed to backed my budbox 74 with a re-issue and the difference was huge- none of the buttery compression of the original- which for my money is still the best compressor ever made!)

An original script logo P90 is going for silly, silly money these days.

Re: Joe and phasers

I've been thinking of getting a Phase 90 for quite a while now.
What do you guys think of the regular MXR Phase 90? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=151100
Where in the pedal chain would you place it? Before or after OD? In front of the amp or through the FX loop with all the other time effects?

The block logo one is nowhere near as smooth as the script logo re-issue. If you scour eBay you might get a cheap script re-issue.

Re signal chain- I don't have any FX loops on my amps, so I put everything in the front end, but my phaser is certainly always after any dirt/compression/envelope fx.

Rules of thumb-

Wahs/EnvelopeFilters>Compressors>Fuzz/Muffs>Overdrives>EQ's>Modulation>Delays>Reverbs>Line Drivers/Buffers

or if you have FX loops:

Front end: Wahs/EnvelopeFilters>Compressors>Fuzz/Muffs>Overdrives>EQ's>Line Drivers/Buffers

Loops: Modulation>Delays>Reverbs

Although you can get amazing depth by shoving a chorus AFTER delays sometimes, and a compressor after a muff can sound v cool too.

Use your ears- whatever sounds good is the right way!

Good advice here.... http://www.thegigrig.com/acatalog/Tips.html although I wholly disagree re Muffs and O/D's but that's 'cos I use my OD pedal as an EQ'd booster for my Muffs.

Re: Joe and phasers

Thanks for the detailed response.
I assume the Phase 90 is a modulation pedal. Would that be ok for the FX loop?
Phase90->Chorus->Delay->Reverb

Perfect!

Modulation= Flange/Chorus/Pitch Mod/Phaser

Do try and get one of the script logo re-issues though. World of difference to the block logo IMHO.

Re: Joe and phasers

Phaser or Chorus first? Or doesn't it make any difference?

Will keep eyes open for a script logo one. Thanks.

Depends. If you've got a TC PCF, def put the Phase 90 before it as the TC has a fabulous buffer which ideally you want as near the amp as possible. If it's a Boss or something like that, then it really makes no odds, as I couldn't imagine having a Chorus and a Phaser on together.

One thing you do need to do- you will have a lot of fx- patch cables are the single most important thing to spend your money on.

There's some really good options out there-

DIY Kits (in order of preference)

Evidence Monorail
Lava
George L's (quite trebley)

Custom

Evidence Melody (I use this for the switched loop part of my rig)
Pete Cornish (used in all other parts of my rig)
Planet Waves is a cheapo but decent alternative and I'm sure there are loads of other opinions on this.
