Topic: Ft. Worth 3/23/10 Show Gear Report

Doing this from memory, he brought out a ton of guitars...and I literally had a front row seat, so had a good look at everything

Ernie Ball Doubleneck
JB goldtop #001
JB in dark blue
The "Gary Moore" 2007 '59 Reissue Les Paul (best sound of the night IMHO, "Further On Up The Road" killed)
The other 59 reissue that has more cherry burst to it
The V
The Explorer (rocked balls, didn't know the tune so likely something off new album)
The red "Freddie King" ES-355 (only guitar that even hinted at a different sound, nice tone)
Les Paul Custom, appeared to be the real deal, finish had sunk into the grain
Mahongany Firebird I
Ernie Ball Anniversary hard tail
Ernie Ball Steve Morse Model 2
Alvarez Yairi acoustic

Amps were the Category 5 cabs, Carol Ann, Twinkleland, Category 5 JB and of course the Marshall Silver Jubilee

I got my hand slapped by an usher for trying to take pictures, but I did sneak off this one from my iPhone. Not good.   This was the encore...Just Got Paid.

Hi msantarc. Welcome to the forum. That is a Theremin, an audio oscillator hooked up through an effects box to the amps. The rod uses the proximity of an  object (hand or other thing) to change the frequency of the audio oscillator. I believe the first use in Rock was by Led Zeppelin.

Depending on your definition of "rock", I'd say the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" beat the release of "Dazed & Confused" by several years.

It's a pretty damn cool instrument in Joe's hands....I like it!

Re: Ft. Worth 3/23/10 Show Gear Report

Thanks for the info Carl. I never knew the Beach Boys used one but now that I recall the music, yes. I wouldn't give them a Rock classification though.  tongue
