"I think the best way to explain my feelins is that if I had to give a "new" person a JB album to give them an idea of what Joe is all about it wouldnt be this one."

The one I would give 'em is the next live one.

Re: Ross halfin plays JOE's new disc for Jimmy Page.. Mixed comments!

I think the reason for all the hubub is that it is some good song choices, Joe's playing really shines, and his voice has definitely sounded better than ever. It is a bit mellower than his previouis works, but I think this is because it's his bluesiest album. Moreso than Blues Deluxe. Even with it, it just seemed like he was rockin' out on some blues tunes. Here, it seems like he's trying to get more of a blues feel.

As far as over-produced, you could say that about some of Hendrix's work. But Jimi looked at live and in the studio as two completely different realms. I'm thinking Joe is starting to look at it that way too.

I think that it is good that an musician is doiing other things on a new cd. It shows that the artist is very versatile and it shows he is growing and trying to improve. That people has their favorite cd's or songs is only so human and it would be very quiet on a forum as this. I think 'You and Me' is great very listenable and shows Joe as a very fine guitar player. Never start listening to a new cd with the older one in your head it has to be clear to soak up the notes and always respect an artist if you do or don't like it 'cause he is giving you an inside in his world. But it always be that one likes it and one don't were humans and our brains are not programmed and we all can give our meaning and i think we all like it that way.

Also, I've noticed that one guy said he listened to it five times and he doesn't like it. I can't say that after five times. I usually don't form an opinion of an album after five times. More like fifteen. Lets me digest it. I've learned this lesson on cd's like Doyle Bramhall II's Welcome. Hated the first two or three times I listened to it, and put it away in the cd shelf. Took it out two years later, and it has become one of my favorite cd's. Just give it time, especially if it's one of your favorite artists. Let it digest, sometimes albums are like certain movies, you have to watch them several times before you get it all.

Deezer,

Did anybody ever tell you you're pretty smart for your age?

Bridge to Better days for instance, I can not tell you if I like the live better than the studio or vice a versa. I think part of it is Joe being versatile.

can you tell me what you think is versatile on it?  Im not a fan of the procuction on this one.

I know I am rambling again here so let me try to summarize. I can see this cd as one critical stone in a pathway to a place we don't know of, I can see it as part of a big plan carefully orchestrated and timed out. I can see it as just what came out of him at this time. I put my expectations away a long time ago and its still working for me. Its all part of my rock and roll fantasy.

I agree with this is where Joe is right now.  It’s hard to make an album this days and it costs a ton of money as well.  So why get Jason Bonham if you’re not going to use him? Let the dogs out of the pen.  I went back to HTCT and SILT and the drums and overall sound is alive.  I don’t feel this one is like that.  Sonically that live vibe isn’t there, and maybe that was done on purpose.  But then why tour non stop for years and then take that sound away?  Tea for Two would have been a much strong tune if the drums were “alive”.  To me that song is todays Pain and Sorrow.  Maybe that’s not fair to compare but that’s the way I see it.  Bottom line is that music means something to each of us.  My opinion is not the right one for everyone, its just the right one for me.  I still love Joe’s music and I still plan on seeing him and buying his two DVDs

But thanks for talking to me and not famming me

Deezer you are entitled to your opinion.  But lets not forget you have formed an opinion as well….you like it.  So since I don’t like it after a full weekend Im not entitled to my opinion till I play for a couple of months and force it?

Yes some albums do warm up and it has happened to me before.  My personal preference is that it talks to me or it doesn’t.
And Im also not bashing album, I just stated that I didn’t care for it.

I was referring that if it doesn't grab me right away I don't form an opinion on it until I've given it a few extra listens. If it grabs me right away, then I'll say it's great, which You & Me did.

Not bashing your opinion, just offering up how I usually go about it.

I agree with the drums comment. Jason is no John.

Blues ain't nothin' but a good woman gone bad.

Re: Ross halfin plays JOE's new disc for Jimmy Page.. Mixed comments!

There is only one Bonzo. Just like there's one Stevie, one Jimi, one Eric Clapton. But Jason is a great drummer in his own right.

Jane,
Which live version of Bridge to Better Days are you talking about? Do you mean when you saw Joe play it live or are you talking about a concert bootleg?

I love that little bass run that Mark adds in the video on the main page.
