Topic: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

Hey All - Sloe Gin is my favorite song Joe has recorded. The solo gets me everytime.... there is such emotion in it.  I figured I needed to test out my new Sony HD Bloggie that I got for my B-Day and for my trip to Germany that starts tomoroow night, so here is my interpretation of the lead. Not exact, but you get the idea. Sorry for the lame feedback at the end, snuck up on me when I was trying to sustain the note....  just a little to close the the amps.  The video/sound quality isn't the best, but if you can watch it in HD - it helps a little bit.

Sounds kickass man. Nailed the notes and tone!

Kinda sounded like the LFNIP version which is my fave.

Any chance for tabs of it??

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

Wow....I....just....give....up

Great job, Ben....that was really good....you captured a great deal of the raw emotion of the solo which is definitely among my most favorite of Joe's.  I'm impressed!

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

That was very well played. Especially the lead parts were played with lots of feeling
and the sound appealed very much Joe-like. Hats off man. smile
Just replace the second chord (you play A) to an F then its perfect.
Apart from that outstanding as usual.

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

Congrats! That is a great  take on the SG solo. I really like that you honestly put your emotions into your playing and that is the key to the convincing version you played.

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

Ben, where will you stay in Germany?
If it isn't too far away from my place we could meet.
You can also pm me if you want. smile

Is that les paul an early 70's? I thought I noticed Gibson engraved on the humbucker covers?

I think I remember Ben saying that he puts those covers on all his LPs...

Nice job, Ben!

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

oooh... I'm jealous. Those are expensive. I lurk on ebay regularly for them.

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

I'm staying with Eva - she's planned a suprise tour for us so I have no idea where I'll exactly be lol.

Yea thats the Two Rock and the Jubilee and a pedal or 2  smile

I collect those covers.  I have about 8 or 9 complete and matched pairs now.  I pretty much set the market for them on eBay and have people running from guitar show to guitar show searching them out for me haha.

Thanks!
Ben

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

Man I was a bit afraid to click on the link, no offense, just a very melodic solo with tons of nuances, thus tough to reproduce.  I am very glad I did on the link.  Excellent job!  keep rocking!

Re: My Version of Sloe Gin solo

Very nicely done!!!  If I could master but one solo in my life it would be Joe's Slow Gin!  So far at my current lack of skill level I would be happy just to get that tone right!  Not sure if even that is possible with the equipment I have..Ibanez AS73, Roland cube 40XL and a Digitech RP355.

Nice job!
