Re: Beth Hart

Beth performed last night at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis where she was up for Contemporary Blues Female Artist. (Susan Tedeschi won in the category along with two more awards during the evening.)

Beth & Scott before the ceremony...

Beth performed two songs Baddest Blues & Spirit of God and apparently was a highlight of the evening. Hopefully this will be shown on PBS. I'd like to see the performance.

"The hit of the night was Beth Hart’s performance. This 40-something stunningly attractive woman channeled Nina Simone with all the traumatized quiver in her voice and intense emotion that let you know she’d been through some trials. Once signed to Atlantic Records in the ’90s, she had suffered from substance abuse problems, but has since come back stronger than ever. As she sat down at the piano, she moaned, “This pedal is jacked up. The story of my life.” But she rallied, the pedal was fixed, and she held the audience in her emotional grip from two songs that hinted at a life that’s been anything but easy."

Re: Beth Hart

Beth participated in the MusiCares MAP Fund (Musicians Assistance Program) Benefit on May 12 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The organization provides assistance to musicians in need of substance abuse recovery services and other health services. The honorees were Jeff Greenberg and Ozzy Osbourne. Performers included Keb Mo, Metallica & Ozzy.

Beth performed her song Immortal and Black Sabbath's "Changes" with Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jon Nichols, Johnny Griparic and Teddy Andreadis.

A full video of her performance has not shown up on YouTube however they released the rehearsal for Changes on Soundcloud and it's amazing. Beth gave it a gospel vibe:

Re: Beth Hart

Such a fun time last night seeing Beth Hart! We bought VIP tickets for the show in Philly so we were able to meet Beth, watch her soundcheck, got a signed poster and they provided dinner. It was so cool to meet her. We are so used to the very regimented M&G that Joe has at this point and this was the complete opposite. Everyone just gathered around her in a circle, went up to her, got hugs and photos taken. When people were a little tentative she said, "Come on in and give me some love!" Phil was in heaven getting his hug and photo with Beth smile She is such a wonderful person. It was so nice to see Erin Dragoo and Bill Twomey at the show as well. A lot of fun hanging out and talking before the show started. I filmed nearly all the songs until a man who works there told me to stop. We were on the balcony level and the guy told me no recording was allowed from the balcony. Seemed like a pretty ridiculous rule, but luckily I was able to get 11 songs out of 16. It was a great view from up there and we had chairs to sit on. On the floor we would have had to stand for 5 hours and the stage was high so it would have been hard to see. Glad we had been able to get that balcony seating when the tickets had gone on sale. It was a long night since there was an opening act. She didn't go on till about 10:15 and we had been at the place since 5 for the M&G. Beth did a fantastic show as always. She is one of the best singers out there right now in my opinion. So much emotion and power in her voice. And I find it really cool how every time we have seen her she always mentions Joe and how indebted she feels to him for helping her in her career. It's neat how much admiration they have for each other.

Here are the other songs I was able to do before they told me I couldn't film from the balcony. Meanwhile there were lots of people with cameras and phones down on the floor. Don't quite understand their rule.

Thank you Natasha for capturing and posting!  Great seeing Baddest Blues and Thru The Window Of My Mind. smile

I was bummed when I saw this show date a while ago ... and knew I had a prior commitment.  (However, I definitely would have torn away to help collect and deliver bail money for you had it been needed!!)

Lol Sam! Luckily the guy was pretty nice about telling me to stop. Not like at the Beacon in NY.  I told them I didn't realize it was an issue and he was like, "No problem." It does stress me out, though, when that happens. I don't like getting in trouble. And I couldn't imagine how he had seen me or where he had come from. We were in a pretty out of the way place. Oh well. We have two more Beth shows in New York this week at the Highline Ballroom. Now I'm kind of nervous what the policies will be at that place. Too bad you couldn't make it to the Philly show it would have been great to see you again.

Re: Beth Hart

smile ... Natasha.  Safe travels to NY and good luck tonight.  Looking forward to some posts ... and videos from the Highline.

If I see no post from you to this Thread ... by this time tomorrow ... I'll prepare to head to the nearest Western Union to wire the bail.

(I'd drive there ... but I'm still on probation from last year after single handedly blocking up traffic patterns in downtown NY on my way to the Iridium.)

Re: Beth Hart

Holy crap! Beth was on freakin' fire tonight at the Highline Ballroom! We were right up front with elbows on the stage. Filmed the whole thing. Blue lighting was a bit odd at times, but who cares. "Caught Out In The Rain" with PJ was just killer! She hugged him close for what seemed like 3 minutes after the song, it was intense. Lots of cool songs played that weren't done at the Philly show. Love the fact that she changes up the setlist each night. Phil got a drumstick and a pick. Jon Nichols placed it in his hand when he shook hands with Phil at the end. We talked with PJ after the show for a little while. Such a cool guy smile
