Topic: Paul Kossoff

Paul Francis Kossoff

14th September 1950 - 19th March 1976

34 years gone. Always remembered , never forgotten

Re: Paul Kossoff

just logged in here to post up the same thing myself:

A wonderful artist whose legacy is still heard today, - my son and his class of about 15 kids have been learning "Alright Now" over the last few weeks so as to play it to an audience next Saturday, - my son is playing the solo and an adaptation of the chorus base line over the others, - great to see youngsters starting out on their musical journey so engaged by one of the musical greats.

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

Try and get your son to listen to the extended version of The Stealer

Re: Paul Kossoff

One of the things that attracted me to JB was his amazing bent note vibrato- it is the nearest I have ever heard to Kossoff- who many (me included) believe was the best of all time in that regard.

JB LP Goldtop No. 290- Aged...rather like me.

I can't say enough what a huge Free fan I am.  Each individual for me was beyond brilliant. These were 4 mates that magically ended in the right group together.

I just had to post this right now, because this is what I am currently listening to. Each members talent went beyond Free.  And this is one of the beautiful compositions that will forever endure him in my heart as one of the greatest guitarists ever.  I guess he touches my soul because it came from his heart.

He is one of the very few musicians that can actually make me cry.  And with this he does.

Thank you for this beautiful song.

It just doesn't get much better than that.

Re: Paul Kossoff

There are so many guitarists that move me with their playing, but not many that do it with one note...Gilmour, Green...but who tops that list is Koss.
This is one of those tracks...where every note matters.

Re: Paul Kossoff

I still cant believe Paul was my age (20) when they recorded the 'Fire & water' album.

THAT note, in the Fire & water solo, need i go further?

He was a perfect example of the importance of HOW you play something, not the actual content of the licks (which were pretty tasty too!)

I hear his approach in Joe's playing a lot, Joe is the only person who ive heard thats managed to emulate the 'quivering-cry' of that fast Kossoff vibrato, its all in the wrist lads wink

Me playing Joe's actual Ibanez Tubescreamer pedal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76jk58_vl2s

Re: Paul Kossoff

You look a lot like him, Frazer!

RIP Paul Kossoff 19 March 1976 still the best guitarist ever

Re: Paul Kossoff

My all time favourite live musician. Lucky enough to see him several times. Sadly missed.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Paul Kossoff

Yeah, still sadly missed and still criminally under-rated.

Re: Paul Kossoff

37 Years ago today. I heard it on Radio Luxembourg. My avatar is my tribute and the pride of my home (apart from my wife smile ).
