Topic: Dr. Z Maz 38 sr nr and Cornford 1x12

Hello all.

After looking around for ages I know have to buy a new amp as my old Marshall has died.  It was only an AVT 100 so been looking at upgrading for a while now anyway.  I have come across a good as new 2nd hand Dr. Z Maz 38 sr nr head.  Played it the other day and does sound very very nice.  In another place i've seen a new Cornford oversized 1x12 cabinet that I thought I could pair it with.  I have never had a single channel amp so I know it will take me a while and a struggle to begin with but ultimately I'm hoping my tone will be much better.

Has anyone any experiance with this amp??? I'm sure I read somewhere that Joe doesn't like Dr Z amps much? Anyone know why?

Will the 1x12 speaker be ok? Maybe a silly question but I have always had combos so new with head and cab situation.

Will a 38 watt A grade amp be too loud for me?  I play in medium size pubs however the band are aiming at more functions and larger venues this year. I am normally mic'd anyway to help balance with keyboards.

I'm pretty sure it is a good deal for all this gear.  I can get head and cab for around £1000.

Thanks

Well my JTM45 has approx. 30 Watts and it is darn loud. Most of the medium club owners complain about my amp being too loud...although I have the volume only on 2 or 3. The Dr Z is a loud monster, no doubt. I'd check the Maz 18 if I was you. 18 Watt is still loud enough for medium sized clubs up to 200 people. Bigger than that you could still mike the amp.

I don't know why Joe doesn't lile these amps. I haven't played one either, but I only heard and read best reviews about it. I think Dr Z produces fine amps, but in the end it is personal taste. To me my JTM45 is a great amp, to someone else it might be another amp.
