Topic: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

Hello my fellow music lovers,

This is my first time posting, i'm usually just gawking around checking out the artists listed here. I've seen this band a few times now and wanted to share since I hadn't seen anything posted on them before.

I first saw these guys open up for Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam last year and I must say I enjoyed their show as much as Davy's (he wasn't on that night:) Aaron did a killer version of Star Spangled Banner. And I was surprised by three kids putting out that much sound. I'm a HUGE fan of power trios! (Reminds me of the first time I saw Joe at a place called Luther's Blues. This was back in 2000 and Joe was playing to a room meant for 450 with only 20 people there...ahh those were the day's when you got to talk to Joe after a show!)

I recently saw Aaron again and had a chance to talk to him. A great kid, almost shy on stage. He told me thats why he wears a hat on stage.

I'd compare them to George Thorogood/Dave Mason/Davy Knowles. Not sure if anyone has heard of them before but it's a band I really enjoy and think good things are gonna happen to in the future. I hope you enjoy!

Re: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

Well Muisclova,

I definitely have heard of Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo and what you say about them is true; a great band with and excellent sound. I last saw them last year at Bam Fest in Madison, Wisconsin where they were part of an all day Blues festival headlined by the Chris Duarte Group. And as you said, in addition to be a very good player in his own right, Aaron is just a terrific young man. I'm looking forward to seem him and the Hoodoo again soon.  smile

Re: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

Thats a great picture Roy! I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I am that anyone has heard of them. I've told most my friends about them and everyone says "Who-do?" Leave it to Joe's fans to be the most open minded about new artists.

With so many great guitar players out there I always like supporting the "good guys" in music. Much like Davy, Aaron's a wonderful guitar player but also a great person.

Maybe we'll see you at a show Roy. I'm heading to their Shank Hall show in Milwaukee (not a fan of little smoky bar shows)!

Re: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

Hi Musiclova,

I see their show at Shank Hall is on April 30th. I might be flying out of town that very next morning, but I think I can make that one. Not sure, but did you know they are appearing at the Milwaukee Ale House on Thursday, March 18th? Here, take a look: http://aaronwilliamsandthehoodoohome.com/calendar/

As far as smoky bars, all we need to do is wait a few more months and then, NO smoking in these clubs! YIPPIE!!!!!  smile

Yes Roy that is a good picture - do you remember who took it - lol.?
Bamfest was the second time I saw Aaron Williams.  Great bunch
of guys - they stayed around to chat and take pictures.
Would love to see them play up north in our area!   J

Hi Jacque! Yes I know, you took it and look, you even got us centered. Not bad for someone who can't hardly see! lol  And what's with this "up north" thing? Jacque, living a mere 100 miles north of Milwaukee is not "up north". Aaron and the Hoodoo are playing twice in Milwaukee in the months of March and April. Hey, why don't you get him to come to the Smiling Moose? That is, if they could find it!  lol

I am working on getting them to the Moose or Waverly.
Would you like directions Roy?  J

Re: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

Hey Musiclova,

Good shout.  AWATH are a tight little band and  I like their energy.  Faves so far are the high-octane "Hypnotize" and the funky "No Time For Love".

Re: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

The Moose and Waverly! Must be northern WISCO talk:) BTW- I saw Aaron was nominated for a WAMI along with another great WI guitar player- Alex Wilson. My two favorite WI guitar players!

I did see they were playing at the Ale House, but i'll be gone (I think it's a Thursday?)

July! No more smoking, yea!

It's funny you say that Curby about high energy. When I was talking with Aaron he said "we haven't learned subtly yet" I knew i'd like him immediately. They certainly aren't at the level of Davy (one of my current fav's) but give this band a few years of touring and watch out. Their on my watch list along with Joanna Shaw Taylor (another good person).

Re: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

The Moose and Waverly are bars in Manitowoc County that have blues bands/
Alex Wilson, Bryan Lee, Robert Allen Jr, Greg Koch/Steve Coehn mainly Milwaukee bands but I'd love to
see Aaron Williams up here. Tomorrow we're seeing Alex and next week Shawn Kellerman from Canada - can't
wait for that!  Sounds like we have the same tastes in guitarists.

Re: Aaron Williams & the Hoodoo

I just had to give a little update. I just saw these guys again this past Saturday in Madison and they killed it! It had been a while since i'd seen them and they just keep getting better and wowing me every time. Their is CD is pretty good but like most rock/blues bands you gotta see them live to really know what they are all about.

Aaron and the drummer during one of their songs even went in the women's bathroom and played for a bit! The crowd loved it-can't say the women did in the bathroom:) Great bunch of guys and great performers. I only wish they played longer, they played with some alt/country band that wasn't very good.

I've seen them play at some hole in the walls, which I would avoid...i wish bands like this wouldn't play at hole in the wall bars. They need to play good venues.
