Topic: Acoustic Anyone?

Just picked up a used Larrivee LV-09e for a decent price. Man, what a sound coming out of this thing. I've never had a high end acoustic before, but this makes me want to get into more fingerstyle stuff, so much fun. Any other acoustic pickers out there in JB world??? I know Fuzzy mentioned to me at HAB that he was into acoustic playing...

Yeah Brother Cool,
Enjoy that axe. Believe it or not, I'm still playing a Morgan Monroe which is a chinese replica of a pre war Martin its not that bad although it can be pretty fussy to tune, more often than not I find myself tempering that tempramental piece of s**t.
I don't do too much finger pickin anymore and have lately just been stompin out my own stuff. I actually own more electrics that I never play and a couple of amps than I do acoustics. I'm just not sure what I will eventually wind up with acoustically, but finding out is usually half the fun. If your up to it I would love to see a video or hear a clip of the new guitar. I hear good things about Larrivee, but have never played one.

Glad to see this.
I bought a Larrivee D-03 a little over 2 years and still love every aspect of it.  Call it beauty in the eye of the beholder, but I think it sounds better than all the other acoustic brands out there.  Not bad for $1000.

Re: Acoustic Anyone?

I'll try to get a decent sounding mp3 up for you to check out, fuzzy. Funny you should mention that your guitar is fussy to tune, one of the things that I noticed about this guitar is that I haven't had to tune it since I unpacked it. It's a great time to upgrade your acoustic, especially the used market. I've always been more of an electric player too, but it's fun to switch things up.

Yeah Kyle,
This Larrivee sounds and plays like a dream, harmonics fly off, and has a very full and balanced sound overall.

I find acoustic takes your playing to a different place, and is good to break out of ruts.

Re: Acoustic Anyone?

I've owned a Martin D-15 for about 9 years or so...all mahogony, well built with a beautifully mellow tone.  Mine lacks a bit of bass projection but I think it works well for acoustic blues and slide (well, I'm trying to figure out the slide thing anyway!).  Songs like High Water Everywhere (I prefer the opening riff on the studio version) and open tuned Ry Cooder style stuff sounds so nice on this guitar.
The D-15 is a bit fragile...the thin satin finished surfaces will ding easily - mine has already had a crack on its side repaired -but I've really enjoyed playing it.  There is just something about the all Mahogany tone that attracts me.  The D-15 was (and still is) a bargain for an American made guitar.  The new ones now use sapele instead of mahogany but the recent ones I've played sounded pretty similar to mine.
