Topic: Leslie West Instructional DVD

Hey All-

Found this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8flmiQkHTdQ ....

I am a big Leslie West fan, so I'll probably pick this up, but until I get it, does anyone know what effect he is using at 1:28? It sound like he is playing 3 guitars at once. His tone is so huge.

Sounds like he's using a harmonizer of some sort.  My guess would be the ElectroHarmonix POG (the big one).  My dad is a big Leslie West fan and it's rubbed off on me through him.  I love Leslie's vibrato and of course how he's after the big tone.  The only thing I don't like about him is the fact that he started the whole craze for the Les Paul Jrs.  If it wasn't for him you could pick up '50s Jrs real cheap!  I admire a guy who could make a "student" guitar sound like that!

Leslie rockin' the Buddas (Superdrive 30s). That's a lot of sound for 30 watts.

Only plays leads with 2 fingers too!

My favorite Leslie West is the B side of Flowers of Evil -Dream Sequence.  Mind blowing jam....  Post Felix Papalardi is not my favorite Leslie West...  Anything with Felix though is golden.  Nantucket Sleighride is another great album.

PS- His Budda/Dean tone is ok, his sound is through those old Sunn Colesium P.A. super stacks and a 59 Jr....

Re: Leslie West Instructional DVD

Really dig those new Dean Signature models.  They go to 11!

Re: Leslie West Instructional DVD

Thanks for those clips and checking his name again. He's one of these guys it can be easy to overlook and yet he was right there at the time with the rest of the best, and played with them too.

I only caught him live one time with WestBruceandLaing and he didn't disappoint. I think he'd lost some weight but he was still a mountain. Saw him on a tv spot a few years ago and he didn't look well and had shed it all, but judging from that clip he has bulked up again a little and is looking OK for his age.

Can still play though and thats a pretty full on sound. Kind of funny but although he says himself he doesn't shred the thing the sound he's got going makes it like does!
