Topic: How do I keep it????!?!?!

Happy new year everyone!!! I got a great new pedal for xmas.  A wampler Hot Wired.  This pedal is used by Brent Mason and I was lucky enough to get him to sign it.  I want to use this pedal and not keep it locked up in a cupboard. Anyone got any ideas on how I could seal his signature on and make it harder to wear off?? Someone has suggested clear nail varnish??

Thanks

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

Something like clear lacquer from a DIY store would do the trick...

My guess is that unless you gig only once a year, using it live...it will get worn!

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

Yep a clearcoat laquer would do it. For car laquer.
Spray it over and use this hot air dryer for it (carefully!!) to harden the whole thing.
Then it should last very long. As alternative you could also glue a transparent foil over it.
Good luck!

can you rehouse the circuit?

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

I'd just keep it safe and buy another.  That way you won't damage it and have one you can beat on.  I'm not sure, but someone told me its hard to clear coat over a sharpie.  It reacts to the paint and runs or something.  I'd look into it before just diving into painting it and having it get ruined.  That would be a bummer and a half.

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

I think a regular clear lacquer would work fine, it's what most people use on their guitars to keep a signature preserved.  Lacquer requires lots of coats though and is very toxic.  Very hard stuff to work with IMO.  I bet a regular clear polyurethane would be even tougher and easier to spray.  Do your research man!

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

Sharpie solvates in alcohol,  so read the coating ingredients on the can.  Probably gonna be prone to smearing while wet no matter what you use.  Good luck

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

I was lucky enough to get Pat Metheny, Ted Nugent, Joe Satriani and Allen Holdsworth to sign a guitar for me years ago (1992-1995)
I went over the signatures with clear nail polish.  Signatures are still intact to this date.

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

light misting coats of a spray lacquer from hope depot, lowes or hobby store. Very light... at least three or four coats or more. Remember you only want to protect the signatures, not put a new layer of clear coat on the guitar! Do not go heavy.

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

This is a very helpful thread!!!  I have some signed stuff that I don't want to weather.

Btw, NPB_EST.1979 - love the signature!  that is some funny stuff!

Re: How do I keep it????!?!?!

Thanks for all the tips guys.  I'm quite scared to do anything now incase I ruin it but it is a great pedal so want to use it and want to spend money on other pedals. Will just take care with it.
