Topic: New Years Day Ritual(s)

This is mainly for Euro-members due to the timing - I will confess that the traditional NYD Vienna Philharmonic concert (shown live in every country in Europe) has been part of my ritual for many decades - followed by the ski jumping from Garmisch! big_smile

Does anyone else here indulge?

(Ok, I do have an extra reason, since I grew up in Vienna and was on numerous occasions dragged along to that same stunning hall in which the concert is always held. What a pity that I didn't appreciate the experience then as I have come to do later in life.)

Well, since Norwegian skijumpers tend to land about 20 m shorter than most this year (as well), I'll stick to fireworks today and my own cross country trip tomorrow. And playing JB songs on my new Ceriatone OTS HRM amp smile
Happy new year!

Damn, if only you had told me you were making pork and kraut..... hmm

(The parade starts about an hour after the end of the ski jumping, so I'll look in on a web stream and pretend like it's Jan. 1, 09 and that you're here......) sad

(and now back to the climax of the NYD concert....waiting for the Blue Danube and the Radetzky Marsch) cool

Well Amsterhammer, I guess I qualify as an "honorary" European member after the last 3 weeks here in Berlin so I joined in a typical German New Year's eve dining and watching the unreal fireworks display.

Today, we went to a brunch with all the fixins of a new year feast German style and were absolutely blown away by Ruth Hohmann, a fiery 79 year old jazz singer who tore up the Alte Koepenik Ratskeller backed by a tight 5 piece jazz band. She sang Scat, Swing, Smooth Jazz, Dixieland, Blues, and even did a cool impression of Loius Armstrong including a vocal impression of his muted horn solo. All in English. 6-5 song sets with a feast for 20 Euros. (the band called her the "Down and Dirty Oma")

Hey Big Jeff! She's killing em at 79, there's still hope. tongue

Finished off with a nice 5km walk in the snow to try and burn off the calories from all the celebrating. Cali boy even thinks that 0C is nice weather now. lol

Re: New Years Day Ritual(s)

Happy New Year G Dawg! I kicked off the new year right watching Ohio State win the Rose Bowl. Viewing the "Grandaddy" of all the bowl games is my annual tradition. The first order of the new year was shaking off the cobwebs after rockin' in the next decade with Tommy Castro, man, my legs are still sore from non stop dancing. Hope the new year treats all of you well!!!
