Topic: Moog ?

Hi Joe
I have been fascinated by the device you use in your live performance....I believe it's called a Moog something?  How did you discover it and when do you determine (within the performance) to use it?

Thanks for being true to yourself and doing it your way.

Re: Moog ?

Are you thinking of the theremin, perhaps? I believe it is an Etherwave from Moog... The theremin is the earliest electronic instrument, being invented over 80 years ago.

I can't answer the Joe questions for him, but he has up to this point used it in his performance of The Ballad of John Henry, both the studio recording and live.  He has used it live also in his Just Got Paid medley...

Re: Moog ?

Thanks Rocket.  Yes, he does use it during the Just Got Paid medley.   It has a pedal, a stand and a sort of lightening rod (if you will) where Joe seems to finish a note / bar off the device with an incredible reverb sound.

Re: Moog ?

do some youtube searches for a theremin. It's not a guitar effect like a talk box or wah wah pedal - it is it's own instrument.

Moog is on the more expensive side of theremins. eBay has ZEP theremins that are under $100 compared to moog's $400. Moog's has a volume antenna, but the way jimmy page and joe have used it, they only use the pitch antenna... the ZEP theremin only has the pitch antenna.
