Topic: Tomcat Courtney

A local Texas blues legend. Tomcat Courtney, still performing 4 nights a week here in San Diego's Pacific Beach at the young age of 79, has been nominated in the Independant Music Awards for his first release-Downsville Blues. on Blue Witch Records. For those who want to hear some real down home blues, check it out. This goes back to the roots. I can walk up 4 blocks from the house, have a cold one and listen to this man lay it down. How Lucky!

Heh Heh BigJeff, when ya gonna cut that first one?

First time I heard Tomcat, the lovely Helen and I had walked up to the Cajun restaurant for some gator bits and crawdad etoufee. As we were sipping some Mississippi Mud brews, this old guy walks in, sets up on the very small stage, pulls out his acoustic and proceeded to lay down some of the best, most authentic stuff you could dream of, looking at our obvious enjoyment and smiling all the time. Asked us what we liked and played it from the heart.  Playing for a small fee and tips 4 nights a week in local venues. Gawd!!!! I dropped a 50 in his guitar case at the end of the set and felt embarrassed.

Y'all should buy a cd from this guy just for the collection and historic value. I did.

Life is so good when things drop in out of the BLUE (s). Rick
