Topic: Distortion (gain knob in amp) or pedal?

On this forum, I constantly hear of the latest and greatest pedal for gain, distortion, or boost...
Does anyone just use their gain section that is built into the amp?

Re: Distortion (gain knob in amp) or pedal?

I do most of the time. Tubescreamer only goes on when I want to push it over the edge smile

Re: Distortion (gain knob in amp) or pedal?

Yep, most of the time I use the Marshall's overdrive + Ceriatone HRM overdrive channels.  I just use a tubescreamer or something for some of the shreddier solos.  I only rely on a distortion or overdrive when I'm using a mostly clean amp.

if my amp's drive channel was decent enough, then i'd probably use that and maybe a booster/od in front.
ideally, a marshall of some kinda and my Timmy clone. till then i use a caitlinbread dirty little secret clone into the clean side of my fender blues deluxe

Re: Distortion (gain knob in amp) or pedal?

When I am using my Blues Jr I use an overdrive pedal. When I am using my JCM800 I use the amp only, maybe a Tubescreamer for a little more boost on leads.

Re: Distortion (gain knob in amp) or pedal?

i use my fuchs od channel as is--i use the mid boost on occasion.  i'll use some type of drive on the clean channel just to give me options.  i have several drives to choose from, so i look at the facility or what mood i'm in.  turn it up cool
