Re: ELP To Reform

Thats a little harsh J. Dawg. I know what you mean of course but there was so much more to ELP than that. Keith Emerson actually helped me rediscover classical music which I had kind of given up on in the early 70's. Tracks like 'Take a Pebble' still stand the test of time.

And despite mistreating it appallingly with large knives between the keys Emerson remains one of the finest Hammond players ever.

Yes, they were completely over the top at the height of their career, nevertheless there was some stunning music in there.

I'm not sure about the reunion. It might look a bit sad with 3 old geezers trying to turn back time, but if they just concentrate on the music and forget all the flannel it could be a hell of a show.

They had their day, but the bus is 30 years outta the parking lot.

Re: ELP To Reform

I can't believe they've buried the hatchet, or perhaps Keith intends burying it in the back of lardy Lake's head on stage?

I saw Greg Lake a couple of years ago, and he was actually very good.

Re: ELP To Reform

Sorry Hansamike, but being a devout guitar junky they just weren't my cup of tea. They obviously had someting going on or they wouldn't have gotten as far as they have.

As far as I know they originally planned to include Hendrix in the band. But also without Hendrix for a certain time I liked their" Pictures at an Exhibition". I´m not at all sure if I would still like it today - I might try it out.

Hendrix joining EL&P seems a bit of a stretch.....but I could see him doing it.  Back in the day Keith Emerson was considered the master of his instrument and Jimi would've been drawn to that.  The band was also lauded for their live shows.

Re: ELP To Reform

I loved ELP. The debut album was a joy! I was more into Carl Palmer's drumming.... and he can still do it today, if maybe a little slower.
About the reforming..... why not ? If there is a large fan base to make it worth their while....

I was lucky enough to see them once in a muddy field .... if i remember right.... I was a fan after that experience.
